Would you buy a used rental bike?
A lot of folks have no problems with buying a new to them bike from a shop or individual seller- but what about a bike that has seen service as part of a rental fleet?

our rentals are beach cruisers, nothing much to go wrong, unless the customer
pushes theirs to the top of the highest point and in town, and fries the coaster-brake
on the way down, to seizure.. no cure for stupid, you know...

No rental or bike share for me, not unless they have been thoroughly refurbished. And if that's the case, why would the rental/bike share be selling them when they could be renting them thru their program ? With a bike share, a lot of those bikes have been sitting outside 24/7 too. They'd have to virtually give them away and I'd bet you can find a Craig's List for a rarely used bike type of your choice just the same. Even used off the used rack at the LBS probably wouldn't cost very much, so I'm not certain that the rental or bike share is going to be worth much of anything either ?

I have a Fuji Captiva 7 speed beach cruiser that was a rental bike. I paid $25.00 for it and all it needed was one new crank shifter and a new seat. Otherwise it was in excellent condition - except for under the handlebars where the lock/chain had rubbed off the paint. If a bike isn't stickered as a rental and you see this mark it means it was a rental and kept locked up. (I was lucky as the shop kept their rentals inside so no weather damage). I keep it around for company.
