there is nothing wrong with wearing a helmet and if it makes you feel good, thats even better, but if one doesn't wear one, it's not the end of the world either.

I think that's the root of the problem. You can't really make it a "powerful" argument. Unless it's popular enough that enough people are affected by it, I don't know if there will ever be a powerful enough blanket argument.
I mean, if race car drivers wear helmets, then why don't we? There's probably a good reason.
If me darting around traffic at 25+ mph in midtown traffic warrants me wearing a helmet, then why doesn't grandma who goes 5mph and sits upright and low enough to "walk" her bike use one? There's also probably a good reason why she wouldn't need one whereas I would.

the quote was "more powerful" as in, better. A better reason to wear a helmet. If enough people did hit their heads when riding they would be affected by the argument that they should make wearing a helmet a priority, but they don't hit their heads that often so the argument is less powerful than if there was an elevated risk to go without a helmet.

OMG i had my first major bike crash today (been riding for two years). I was riding along in the middle of the road, when traffic started to speed up faster then i could go i started to merge onto the side walk.........well i didnt his the little sidewalk ramp with a big enough angle to get me over the little bump and it stoped my bike and luanched me head on into a cement pole at about 19 mph. if i hadnt been wearing a helmet i probably would have fractured my skull. i normlay dont wear a helmet and it was pure chance that i was wearing mine today but from now on im wearing mine everytime i get on a bikie.......IM A BELIEVER!!!!!!
