German Bikes
Someday I'd like to get another commuter and was wondering about German bikes given that some of the German bike accessories I've owned have been very good. What German brands are the most highly regarded? Can I get them here in the US? Where? Thanks.

Storck, Focus

you can probably get anything here if you got the money( which can be good/bad) but might have to get them ordered and sent to a lbs as they might not be able to be shipped to you.

I've only seen on Storck, but I believe the proper German spelling is $torck.

From what I've seen on the local trails... add Hot Chili, Bergamont, Stevens, Bulls, Ghost, Canyon, Cube, Votec, Simplon, Rotwild, Radon and Rose to the list. There are most likely a couple others I'm missing. From the bikes I've come across, they all seem to have around the same specs, frames look similar to what you can get back in the US... a lot of copy cat designs.
There are not many of these brands you can get in the States for the same reason you don't see traditional US brands sold here. I would say get a bike where you live. Why try to go out of your way to get a "German" bike? It'll be hard to source, get warranty work done and the exchange rate is not too good. |
Peter White imports Tout Terrain frames/forks , and builds them up with Rohloff &
Schmidt hubs and will fit Magura disc brakes if you wish. Euro is still stronger than the Dollar so expect stuff to cost more.. |
BMC is Swiss. KTM is Austrian. Neither are German, but close.
