It gets pretty wet and nasty up here in the PNW and I've had chains develop a squeak mid-ride. This can get annoying if nothing else. Additionally, the lube is not just for the chain. Sometimes, I will need to wash dirt out and relube my cleats in the middle of a ride.

Lets see, frame pump, spare tube, patch kit, tire leavers(in seat bag) in jearsy pockets cell phone eppi pen and 2 gu's. Which by the way gu packets make great tire boots for when you rip out a side wall. put 3 hundred miles on one this summer before I bothered to buy another tire.

All the below stuff fits into my seat bag, believe it or not!
1 spare folding tire (very tightly folded to fit in seat bag)
1 spare ultralight tube in it's box
6 glueless patches
1 tire boot
1 Part mtb3 mini tool
1 mini folding pliers
2 tire irons
1 Quik Stik (for rapid removal of tire)
2 AA batteries for front flasher
2 AAA batteries for rear taillight
1 button battery for computer sender
1 State of Indiana ID card
$25 dollars
2 quarters (in case the phone card doesn't work)
1 phone card (in case quarters don't work)
2 Excedrins
4 Ibufrin (sp?)
4 Ammonia AD (SP?)
4 bandaids
1 guaze pad with adhesive strips
1 alcohol wipe
1 hand cleaner
1 house key
Then on the frame is my mini pump of course.
Attached to my rear presta valve is a Presta to Schrader converter.
The reason I carry all this junk is because I ride in remote areas where cell phone use is spotty and walking would be long undertaking. I also don't believe in treating my wife as is she's my mommy; so if anything goes wrong on a ride I want to be able to fix most problems and get home without calling her. I've only had to call her twice in 25 years of marrage (I average 5,000 miles a year), once when I had an accident and the bike was totaled and I was at the hospital, and the other when I got the runs so bad I couldn't ride any further due to weakness...but I did manage to ride 8 miles and stopping at every gas station and resturant to use the facilities before I got too weak to continue and my butt was too sore!
