New bike Help.
 

Okay So i have 2 bieks at the moment from when i was growing up. I'm 18 now.

My mountain bike i got when i was 14 is sort of small on me now but i think it might work good for when i wanna mountain bike. However i also have a bike with no suspension, but it isn't a ten speed and doesn't have thin tires. Idk what it is.

So the smaller mountain bike. Would it be bad to use it to mountain bike? I would think smaller is better.

The red one with no suspension (and its not a junk bike) has gears and such trek And its lighter i was thinking of getting road tires for when i wanna ride on bike paths.

Last question i have is if i ride a mountain bike with bigger tires and i want to road ride to. Is it that much harder. What would you recommend.

I recommend that, if you're finished with high school, to go and hang out at a bicycle co-op. Make certain that the red bike is not stolen and that you have a legal right to it. Take the red bike to the co-op, whenever you go there. Practice fixing and upgrading your bike at the co-op. Make friends there and learn basic bicycle mechanic skills.

After hanging out at the co-op for about 4 to 6 weeks (for at least four hours per day) , talking to and learning from mechanics. Go to a bicycle shop and volunteer your time after you know for certain, that you can fix a flat, true a wheel, adjust or change brakes, and adjust or change derailleurs. Also learn how to install a new bicycle chain. Those skills should get you through the door. After volunteering from 4 to 6 weeks, ask the boss if you can start working there part-time on the weekends. If he says, not at that time, then apply at Walmart, as a bicycle assembler, and keep volunteering at the bicycle shop on the weekends (eventually you should get hired).

Once you get your job, save your money and either get a better bike than either of the ones that you have, or upgrade your red bike.

Hopefully, you will become interested in the physics of cycling and you'll want to obtain much more information, by going to college, so that you'll be able to make twice as much money as any bicycle shop owner.

Education, honesty, and reliability are the keys to success...

Also, the ability to focus upon a goal or objective is absolutely necessary for anybody to experience success. Otherwise, you'll just sit around wasting time and become an aimless person. Somebody that adults will find it difficult to befriend. Nobody wants a bum for a friend!

thanks so much for your reply :D and the red bike was my dads. Not stolen haha. Im more focused on the mountain bike vs road bike to start off though. I'll probably go in and talk to the owner at my local bike shop and see what he says about my mountain bike and red bike. The red one I think i could use for road rides and the other one for mountain biking :D

If your MTB is small, it's most probably too small. Just take it to the co-op and fix it. Then either sell it, or donate it to a friend, relative, or some deserving soul.

After that, for the rest of your life, only work towards getting your own bike, and having your own bicycle in tip-top condition. Remember, your stuff comes first!

At your age, either a MTB or a BMX bike would most probably be more exciting! You might want to sell your dad's bike too! Use the proceeds from both bike sales towards getting a MTB, a BMX, or a Cannondale Bad Boy 9. I think that if I was your age, I'd really enjoy that Bad Boy 9, made by Cannondale!
