Yes, everyone. The attacks were the justification and it was a trio of soldiers.

How close to the trail is the armory? I wonder if anyone had bothered to tell them that there is a little thing called the Posse Comatose Act that limits the power of the local governments and law enforcement to use in using Federal Military Personnel to enforce the law of the land. I don't know if this would apply or not, "It does not refer to, and thus does not restrict or apply to, the National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States." as it may have just been the Unit's commander feeling understandably nervous but still they may have as I said overstepped their authority. Did they give you any indication of whose authority they were acting under? |

Left house for a moon lit ride about 11 pm last fall testing a new LED light I had put together with 36 LED’s in it and keeping the old LED bar on for backup (24 LED’s) I head out lighting a real path for myself. My evening ride starts with a loop around a subdivision and then off on country roads. Eleven at night some fog rolling in and I encounter a couple walking a dog and with all the lights plus my helmet lights and a couple flashers in the fog I think I scared the guy and the dog as they both ran up a driveway, she laughed and he swore saying I thought it was a F$%#^& Martin . The ride around the loop is a few miles and the second encounter with the couple He and the dog stood their ground and I couldn’t help myself as I passed saying “Greetings Earthlings” to that he said F$%^&* A**^%$#! And to that she roared with laughter. Off to the country to test the lights and fog was growing and the roads deserted time around midnight I hear a coyote call from across a 100 acre field when I stopped for water, the second call was very close the third from another direction and another from yet another. These wild dogs were all around this field and at that moment all hell broke loose as the started to converge on something in the middle of the field my guess it was a whitetail feeding out there. Like something from wild kingdom the yelped and howled and then the sounds of the animal being brought down and then total silence. All my amazement soon changed to what would I have done if it was me they wanted and I got the heck out of there. I rode about another hour and finished my ride about 1:00 am coming back to my house the back road. Standing in the middle of the road is a 10 point buck facing my headlights and did I mention this was the rut season. I came to a total stop and was making plans on leaving the bike on the kickstand and hightailing it into the woods if he saw me as another buck he wanted to fight. I flipped all the lights to flash mode and he no longer was interested for some reason and walked off the road and went back to what he was doing. I got home put the bike away and came in the house and got “the what are you doing riding so late look” and was asked if I saw anything on my ride. I knew the look and the probability that any one of my story would be viewed as I wasn’t riding at all and rode to the corner bar for a few hours. So I said nope nothing out of the ordinary and went to bed. |
A very long time ago when helmets were just becoming somewhat common - I purchased my first Bell Helmet and went for my first ride with a helmet. Just a short ride around the neighborhood - seemed very strange! I had been touring on bicycles for years with no helmet so took some getting used to!
Two miles from home a dog ran out of a yard - wiped out my front wheel - I went over the handlebars at 15 mph. Landed on the helmet and split it in half. Walked away with a minor concussion and sore neck. It is hard to imagine the result if I had not been wearing the helmet. Second Story Riding on a city street with a formal bike lane. Minivan passes me - next thing I remember is waking up in dirt to the right of the bike lane. A kind motorist stopped and called the police. Told them the minivan thru a beer bottle at me - hit me in face - broke my left eye socket and knocked me out. I could go on forever - mountain lion tracking me in the Olympics while on mountain bike - semi parking on top of my left leg (stilled clipped into cleats) after running over me - judge telling me it is my fault for getting hit while standing STOPPED at a RED light while in the bicycle lane - seat falling off as I landed a bad jump on mountain bike (we have NO children!) - dodging high velocity rifle rounds while riding mountain bike in Cascades ... and so forth |

We first started riding in a local park with a 4 mile loop that has a couple hills. Moved my son from the trailer to a back seat and we were half way through the trail and it rained then stopped by the time we got around to the stop/start area again. Wife and daughter didn't like being wet so they went back to the truck and my son and I went around again figured we were already wet so if it rained again it wouldn't matter. The trail was pretty empty since most others went home. We came around a turn halfway through and had to hit the brakes to keep from hitting a deer that walked out of the woods onto the trail.

Back in 72', had just left the main gate at Lowry AFB in Denver, heading downtown to get in some sort of trouble on my blue Varsity.
At the bottom of the hill, right at the E.Colfax Ave intersection, the light turned yellow and I stood to beat the light. The rear wheel nut on the right side was loose, the wheel locked up and down I went. I got to my feet and dragged the bike to the sidewalk. There was a Gas Station on the corner, so I went over and asked the mechanic if I could borrow a wrench to free up the wheel so at least I could roll it back to the barrack. " We don't lend tools..." Standing there in my shredded levi's I mumbled " thanks anyway". A motorist who saw what happen got a crescent wrench from his trunk for me to use. Fast forward 30 years...A co-worker gave me 3 old Schwinn Varsitys. One was a ladies, one was a red 24" frame and the other was a 22" frame that was blue. Guess which one fit. The wife hates for me to ride it. On nights like this with rain approaching, that crash comes to the forefront. |
Last week I had my bike fit. They told me to ride a lot and to get use to my new position. I did and my rear wheel fell off. The Bike fitter's mechanic forgotten to tighten my Skewers since he swapped them to fit in their bike trainer.
Good thing I was not going more than 20mph at that time. I tighten it and shake it off. And then my handle bars start shaking... crap... they did not tighten the stem and fork that good. Learned my lesson... I stop and check every little thing. From now on... I am double checking everything every time I take off, specially when somebody touch my bike. |
