Cleat position

There seems to be a lot if info between the best position for your cleats on cycling shoes. The old traditional ball of foot vs new further back / arch of foot location.
What are feelings around here?

Depends. I like mine a few millimeters behind the center of ball of my foot but you'll need to experiment. I've never known a "cyclist" to locate his/her cleats further aft than that and definitely not under the arch.

Back in the day, leather sole, we rode a while and the pedal made marks,
in the sole.

then the cleat was nailed on..

This is Joe Friel's blog on cleat position:

I buy into the physics and physiology of moving the cleats way back, but I've always pedaled with the ball of my foot since I was a tyke so it seems too weird when I try it. You need to move the saddle a lot lower and forward to accommodate the change.

on my road bike my cleat is at the ball of the foot. on my other five bikes i have flat pedals, and i put my foot wherever i want it at the moment.
