Highest mileage on your tires

What is the longest your tires have lasted - mileage-wise?

I have usually replaced mine from damage before I even got close to wearing them down.

Mr. Beanz 04-28-12 10:21 AM

Depends on what tires you are talking about.

MTB: Panaracer Fire XCPro about 400 miles (dirt)
Armadillo roadie 4000 miles, not one flat
Continental roadie GP road types 2000 few flats
Serfas Seca roadie 2000

I don't track mileage. When I can start to see the cords, I replace the tires.

My Michelin Country Dry 2.15's are in their 3rd spring (they are on the bike 8-9 months/year); best longevity EVER!

At the end of 2011 riding season I retired two sets of tires. On the Sirrus Pro, Specialized Armadillo All Conditions Elite...6300 miles. No flats...EVER.On the Cannondale Quick, Continental GP4000....4300 miles. No flats....EVER.Already flatted once this year on my Bontrager Race X Lite Hardcase (Sirrus Pro) once due to a sharp metal object.

I've pretty consistently got 3,000+ mi out of the Vittoria Zaffiro I typically ride on. Not too bad considering they aren't exactly high end.

The Schwalbe Marathon Pluses that are currently on my touring bike have done well over 3000 miles and show very little sign of wear. Their predecessors looked OK when I gave them away after more than 4000 miles.

I still have the pair of Nokian Studded tires I got Imported from Finland in 1990.
they are on a bike I drag out every year that lays down Black Ice on the roadway.

Panaracer Pasela 28c: 2,100 miles before cord started showing in 2-3 places. I weight 170 pounds and generally ride roads with a small amount of gravel riding. Good tire, no flats until the last 200 miles.

The Chemist 04-29-12 06:15 PM

I have Kenda Kwest tires on my bike, and on the rear they last about 3500km, and on the front about double that. I replace my tires when I start getting multiple flats in a short time period, as I usually rarely get flats.

I'll speak regarding rears:

4-5 yearly. More if one (or more) get sufficiently cut. The brand doesn't matter, save all are armadillo-esque.

This "no flats until such and thus" folly amuses me.

I have 12,000 km on my Schwalbe Hurricanes... have been running them for 5 years on various bikes in all seasons.

They still look nearly as good as the new set I am waiting to put on.

Life for Marathons on non touring bikes seems to be around 10,000 km and the rear tyres on loaded bikes seem to run 6000-7000 km.

I wore out a Specialized Armadillo Nimbus around 3,500-4,000 miles.

Gave up on a Continental Contact when I poked a hole in a freshly repaired tube trying to get the 61@$7&# thing back on after 4,200 miles.

cyclist2000 05-02-12 08:25 PM

When I had one bike, I normally got new tires each year, about 4000-6000 miles

Street Pedaler 05-03-12 04:00 AM

Bontrager Race Lite. Back tire- 2800 miles. Front 3100+ and still in decent shape.

eugenek 05-03-12 04:14 AM

I got a pair of Bontrager Select 700x25's with the road bike. After some serious climbing earlier this year (1000 miles and 100,000 ft - this was, I think, more than the total mileage I put on the bike before 2012), the rear tire got so visibly worn out that I had to buy a new one for the last organized event just to be safe. The front one is still going strong and it looks almost new.

KevinF 05-03-12 04:19 AM

Lots of Armadillo stories in here... I had a set that I kept on my bike for about 5,000 miles (zero flats). I bet there were still a thousand+ miles left in them when I took them off. Armadillo's are indestructible.
