Awsome ride
So I watched "Breaking Away" today. After watching the movie, I got the urge to go for a ride.
My first fun part of the ride was the wind. I did an out and back ride with the out part heading into the wind. At one point, I came flying around a turn and found a tree down across the road. I decided to go around the tree without slowing down. I hit the mud and grass going about 17MPH on my 700x23C tires. I made it through with no problems and the park police officer had the widest eyes I have ever seen as I pulled back onto the road while still doing 15MPH. After that experience, I may decide to get into cyclocross. About 3 miles later, I found that my route was flooded. I thought about going through, but when I noticed that the geese were swimming were the road typically was, I went a different route. After turning around, I had a nice stiff tail wind. As I was coming back into town, I decided to take one of the busier roads because it didn't have stop signs. I hooked in right behind a Ford Taurus and stayed with it for several miles. The girls in the car kept looking at their speedometer and then back at me. I felt like Dave as he was following the truck in the movie. I didn't have a speedometer on my bike at the time, but I bet I was doing 30-35MPH. The girls just kept going faster and faster and I kept pedaling harder and harder. The last few miles were fairly uneventful, but it just felt good to be riding. I can't wait to commute by bike tomorrow. |
I love days like that, doubly so when there's a cute girl driving a convertible, and I can keep up with her for a few miles or so... :D

Ahhh.... phoooey on you! Today we got pelted by wet, snowy rain and gusty winds. Apparently so did a lot of other people who got blasted by this huge storm all over the northeast and upper midwest. Last week I was out having my OWN great ride and now... waaaah! This sucks!
Rant over, pant pant. Fortunately, it's supposed to be nice and springlike again by Tuesday. |

Gedouda here.... freezing rain in sacramento? I didn't know it could get that cold there.
Anyways, for those who think this is normal and montreal is the frozen arctic, snow this late in april is highly unusual, but not entirely unheard of. It's just been rather cold and what would normally be rain turns to snow. I actually remember seeing snow in early may, just flurries but it happens! Most of it turned into mushy slush this morning, yeeccch. I just bought two new pairs of shorts and I'm wonderinf if I'll ever wear them!!! |
Well, the wife and I went out for a ride in absolutely BEAUTIFUL riding weather in Denver. A little windy, but otherwise, perfect.
Now, this was my wife's most ARDUOUS ride since her surgery some time back, after which she was told she would most likely never bike again. Anyway, she is still riding the mtn bike (better seating for her) but I cheated and rode my Lemond BA (he he). So we did about 20 miles of hill and dale, stopping for lunch in the middle, eating in the patio of a mexican place. So, anyways, it was a great ride. AND, I told her that my riding 20 miles on a roadie was equivalent to her riding 25 miles on her heavy mtn bike, and that she should tell folks she rode 25 miles. :D |
