Thompson seat post adjustment

I'm baffled. I've used the post for several years with the Brooks, and no problem. I recently switched to a Terry Cite Y, and can't get the nose of the saddle low enough. I mean, the upper and lower elements of the clamping arrangement are actually bottomed out. Thompson provides an index mark and a scale of degrees, and I'm nowhere close to the indicated end of travel, but there she is.

I'm in no way blaming either Thompson or Terry, which kind of leaves the operator. What on earth did I do wrong when I changed saddles.

Could be that you are not aligning the seatpost correctly (as to which is the front or back). The bumpy part of the clamping mechanism is the front.

Not saying this is your issue, but make sure you are aligning correctly.

Well, fan me with a blowtorch. I went out with a flashlight, and there really is a bumpy part, and it is in the rear. Just by eyeball, everything looked symetrical.

Thanks Jed. This is the kind of fast and clear answer we all dream of.

Yee Haw! I don't have to throw the bike away, after all. And once I had the post and saddle off the bike I um, ahem, discovered the word FRONT engraved on the rear of the seatpost.

Thanks again, Jed
