Shipping Bike Internationally (Taiwan to USA)

Howdy y'all,

I've searched the forums but didn't find much information on shipping bicycles from Taiwan to the States (Texas to be exact).

I've recently purchased two GIANT bicycles for my fiance and I in Taiwan and will be returning State-side with the intention of bringing both bicycles back. Would like some advice as to the method of best practice as to how to accomplish this.

Airlines restrict 1 bike/person with a $150USD price tag. Not to mention, American Airlines isn't known to be friendliest in accommodations.

Thanks much!

Scroll down to look at the chart at the bottom of this site, and then check the airline's website. Always look at the bicycle/sports gear baggage information first, then the oversized baggage information:

Some airlines allow bicycles for free. Fly with Qantas, for example ... or British Airways, or Thai Airways, or Air New Zealand ...

Last year I shipped a bike frame from the US to Australia for a buyer there. I found a business, bikeflights, that specializes in helping people ship bikes. You buy the Fedex shipping (usually at a big discount) through them and they email you a shipping label. In my case the cost through bikeflights (around ~$400) was almost half of what it would have cost going to Fedex on my own (~$700) I'm not sure if/how it would work from Taiwan to the US.

Maybe it would be cheaper to pay to take them on the flight though.

I'm not sure of their policy, but I have never been charged for bringing my bike along when using EVA Air ( A Taiwan Carrier ) IMO check in is important, in other words, smile alot.
