Montreal can be a funny city. Down the street from me there is a bridge exclusive to the bicycle path that is divided into three lanes. One for pedestrians and one each for bicycle traffic in two directions. There is no sign but a line of vertical plastic posts make it impossible (or highly impractical) to pass on that bridge. Interestingly enough, there are signs in a few other areas ( blind corners) but no physical posts there.

On the other hand - the food here can be pretty good.

No longer than most bridges are it's best to wait to pass for safety and simple good manners , which by the way, the OP demonstrated a serious lack of.

??? Does not parse.

For those struggling with the fact that passing (overtaking) on a bridge is against the rules of the road for bicycles ,as well as motor vehicles, should look it up in their states motor vehicle code (which includes bicycles) or google it to see that overtaking on a bridge is unsafe and illegal !

??? Show an example of this "law" in just one state (like yours).

If no passing is allowed, the road markings and signs will indicate that (on a bridge or not). A bridge is not, by itself, an indication of a "no passing zone".

The speed limit is irrelevant in this case. They (and you) can travel at any speed they like as long as it is at or below the posted maximum allowed speed.

For cars, drivers are generally expected to travel at speeds near the speed limit. Not so on MUPs.
