I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseam but after a half hearted search I didn't find the answer to my specific question.

I'd like to get a couple of cycling caps and I'm afraid that wearing them will be an issue with visibility. I have some old ball caps that I currently use as sweat bands and surprisingly, they work pretty well for that but I can't wear them forward because being on a road the bill completely blocks your view of the road so I wear them backwards. How does the small bill on a cycling cap work when you're down in the drop bars? Does it obstruct your view of the road ahead at all or is bill suited for that type of riding?

Curious minds want to know. Well cheap/frugal ones do anyway.

Greatest invention since sliced bread. The small bill angled sharply downwards gives almost total protection from late *afternoon sun, and a tilt of the head gives perfect visibility ahead. Also, the design of the bill makes it much less likely to be blown off if you don't also wear a helmet.

*Probably early morning sun. I really haven't tried that.

All of the cycling caps I have had the bills would work in both the down position to protect the eyes and the up position so you could see. When wearing it under a helmet you flip the bill upwards....been doing it since the days of the "hairnet" helmets. YMMV

that's why cycling caps have small bills, so you can see the road. they're all different, some small, some medium. you can easily spin them around to cover one eye, or even an ear or the back of your neck. when the bill is flipped up it draws air down and helps cool.

If you do use a ballcap as a cycling cap, first rip off the "beanie" with a pair of pliers. That way it doesn't get ground into your head by the helmet.

Since you haven't ordered yet, I'll pass along a little experience. Mine happens to be yellow with a black bill. In the middle of that black bill, top and bottom is a great big WHITE logo. That white logo is so incredibly distracting when riding that I had to black it out with a marking pen. Maybe I'm over sensitive, but it's at least a minor consideration.

yellow is a bad choice of color due to the many flying bugs that think yellow is a food source.

I usually wear my backwards. It keep a bit of sun off your neck.. My problem with cycling caps, they pretty much come in small sizes so they don't normally fit my big head.. You wear yours under a helmet ?. I was lucky enough to find a fake cycling cap make of Cool Max material.. In the summer, I think these caps help to keep one's head a bit too warm.

One size fits all is a lie. I have a small head. Most of the caps are too large for me. Halo headband for my sweat. And it's stretchy and small enough for my head.

I don't wear a helmet on every ride, but when I do the cap would be under it. When I don't it would be nice to have the small bill and some sweat catching at the same time.

I have a large head, too big for most caps. I ordered mine from Octopus Caps here in Columbus, one made from a soccer scarf for winter, one from a hockey jersey for summer (great moisture wicking), and Im ordering my next one, made from a Tshirt, all in XXL

i wear mine backwards also .... there overall alittle too small for my head as well .... definitely get polyester ... a cotton cycling cap seems like an oxymoron to me

if you soak a cotton cap in water it will help it fit and cools you off, oxymoronically.

I love cycling caps. My head is too small for most. I mainly use a Halo headband for cycling with a helmet. On the non-helmet days, I use my Gore cycling cap.

I tripped over Walz's site the other day. I like them and a twill cap might be fun to wear just to keep the melon warm on cool days. Course if I wear it to work, I'll get beat up.

Can't remember where but I'll find it again easy enough. But a 7-eleven hat would be nice. As kids we used to ride up to one for all the important things in life at the time. Super Bubble, an Icee, and any other zoom zoom or whim wham that we might like.
