need advice finding a used hybrid bike ($100-$150) in New York city

When I'm home on the west coast, I'm car-free. But on occasion I'm in NYC for at least to week - as my parent are eldery and
need more of my help. I'd like to buy a used hybrid bicycle in Long Island (to keep there) to avoid weight gain (all the great NY food) and keep my energy and fitness
up. I don't want to spend $400+ on a new hybrid bicycle. I'd like to find something used. Craigslist is just not practical.
Not enough selection when I'm in town. Can anyone recommend a better strategy in finding a decent quality hybrid bicycle for around $100-$150?
Thanks

Look on Ebay as well, and select 'X' miles from your zip code.

If you're in New York City, you don't really need a hybrid. A single speed will suffice. A brand new single speed will cost just as much as a quality used road or hybrid bike. The only differences will be, that your bike won't be used, it will work perfectly, it won't have any scratches, and it will have a warranty!

Therefore, you don't have to necessarily think "hybrid".... You could think instead, "single speed"!

Here are just a few you might consider:

1) The Schwinn Madison ~ $275
www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_540608_-1_202614

2) The Nashbar Hounder ~ $200
www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_504148_-1__202614

3) The Motobecane Track ~ $280
www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/track.htm

4) The Dawes Revolver ~ $200
www.amazon.com/Dawes-Revolver-Single-Speed-Track/dp/B007R6RRRE

* If you can find a used 80's chromoly steel road bike on CL, that may be preferable to anything recommended above, provided that it's in fair to good condition.

There's also The Mongoose Sinsure ~ $149

Remember:

If it doesn't fit, don't buy it!

There lots of hybrids for sale on CL just not for $100-$150. If you are willing to spend a bit more you will have a lot of choices. You should also know what you are looking at as far as condition of the bike before you look on CL not to mention be a bit handy otherwise CL may not be for you.

A rigid MTB with slicks can be a great option if you are having trouble finding a hybrid. Otherwise, if that 750 fits, I'd be running to get that.

Maybe go to Dumbo or Manhattan and visit recycle-a-bicycle.

If it's the right size, get this Miyata and join a bicycle co-op in order to fix it!
