Where to buy slightly outdated models?

Each year the bike makers roll out new versions of the same models that were on the market last year, with only slight differences. If you are lucky you may find the older ones on sale, but most of the time there are perhaps only the current-year models in the bike shop. I doubt all the old ones have been sold; but if not, where did they go? Where can I buy those bikes in new condition?

I've seen LBS with two and three year old stock on new bikes. Do a search on the make and model you want and you'll likely find places selling them. They don't just go away

probably the 'about to go out of business' shop

there is no one clearing house

though once there were about 1000 fujis in their boxes, on ebay

apparently fuji america dumped them on some ebay seller

If there is a certain brand and model you looking for try a LBS that sells that brand. Back when I worked in a shop we used to sometimes buy 'leftovers' of lower to midrange bikes so we could have great deals in the early spring. However quite often leftovers are really big or really small.
I am sure most companies use email these days back then we used to get monthly specails from manufactures and they often had leftovers in them. I recall sometimes Bianchi had 2 or 3 year old bikes of some lower/mid models but again often they were big/small or odd colors.

BD will get Fuji and Kestrel leftovers. Often gray market Euro models. My buddy recently picked up a Fuji ACR (I believe a Roubaix here in the states) with 105 for $900. Very cool bike, but he is a midget, so he was lucky cause all the had were lil people sizes...
