Fitting the bike in the trunk
 

I'm curious: which cars in production today can transport a full-size bicycle in the trunk without having to take it apart or fold seats?

Presumably, most trucks would work. I can sorta fit a bicycle into the trunk of a Corvette after taking one wheel off (but it works better if I take off both wheels). In a Toyota Sienna, it will, likewise, only fit in the trunk without one wheel.
I remember renting a Chevrolet Impala a few years ago and it had a remarkably long trunk, but I'm not sure if it was long enough.
I think it would need to be about 60" long to fit a bicycle. Maybe a bit less if it was a wide car.

The Honda Odyssey can fit a bike (my Specialized Sirrus Sport (Large sized) ) in the back but you need to make some seating adjustments...mainly you need to remove anything in the center area of the van. Then you can just roll the bike straight down the middle and it fits perfectly.

I'm not sure you're going to find a car where you can fit a bike in the trunk WITHOUT adjusting the seats at all or taking off wheels...

Taking off the front wheel is the big gainer. That allows you to turn the handlebar sideways and convert the bike into a 1 plane object. Once that's done it'll fit into almost any car.

Yeah. Honda Odyssey. But that's technically not a trunk, is it? Buick Lucerne? Chrysler 300? Cadillac DTS?

EDIT: maybe it fit in the back of a Honda Pilot or similar.

Never tried it but how about one of those full sized GM cars from the 60's? Their trunks were HUGE!

1972 Ford LTD...we used to pile 3 of them in there. Only car I can recall with a larger trunk would have been the '59 Fleetwood we had before the LTD :P

A big old American car the size of the Andromeda Galaxy would be just the thing.

But they only made sense when Gas was under a buck, rather than $4/gallon

Another interesting possibility is a PT Cruiser. It has a flat floor and is actually classified as a truck. I'm thinking it would work but you'd have to take out the back seat.

Many cars would work if you take out the back seat. As hatchbacks go, PT Cruiser's trunk is actually fairly small. I was thinking along the lines of of a large wagon, like Volvo XC70, but I don't think they are long enough. Not as long as that Ford LTD.

My 64cm Atlantis goes into my '03 Protege and my wife's '08 Civic if I take off both wheels. Not gracefully, but it goes. Back seat folded down, of course.

??? I thought the Galaxy was a Ford.

a road bike can usually go between front and back seats of a 'normal' car - like a 4 door honda civic - front wheel removed..

Both my bikes are 54's and fit nicely in the back of my '09 Jetta TDI Sedan (not at the same time!) with the front wheel off. I transport my bikes this way 95% of the time.
