How many people have S.O.'s that ride?
 

Obviously, I didn't want to exclude boyfriends/girlfriends.

I was reading some of the "Introductions" and noticed there were a couple of men who ride with their wife. (or girlfriend) It got me thinking how many people here at the forums ride with their mates. (That's significant others, not friends for you English and Aussie folk.)

My wife and I started road cycling together when we were dating back in '92 and then mountain biking in '96. We both train during the week on the road and try to mt. biking on Sundays (not every Sunday though:cry: )

We have a two year old son, so we seldom ride on the road together though. We've just recently arranged for her mom to watch our son on Thursday evenings so we can get a ride in. This week will only be the 2nd attempt.

How many other people here ride with their significant others or have s.o. that ride too?

My partner is an avid cyclist and we ride together on average three times per week. In act, we have a ride planned for this afternoon. She's a good riding partner... it's good to have someone to ride with right in your own house.

My wife rides. We both tend to motivate each
other when one of us doesn't quite feel like riding.
interestingly we don't always ride together when we participate
in organized rides, and its not a problem that one or the
other of us is faster to finish on any given day.

My wife is just starting to ride a bit, and loving it. Buying her a bike for her birthday helped :)

My wife has been riding for a few years. I just started a couple months ago so I can't keep up with her very well just yet.

Although my better-half owns a Cannondale R600, she prefers being the stoker on our tandem.

Because of neck problems that inhibit her ability to look to the side or rear, my wife has stopped riding her half-bike and puts her road time in as stoker on our tandem. This still means we ride 2-4 times a week (with conversation being easier), to the tune of about 4000 miles per year, and it's great to be able to share the enthusiasm for cycling with her.

My wife does and is a great touring companion. She also rides out part way to meet me when I'm cycling home (AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH)

I ride because of my wife. She got me into it. For the first year we were together, I'd go golfing or to the gym when she went riding because I didn't ride. She has since showed me the light. :D

Stoker is the back person on a tandemn bike, front person is the captain!

My wife and I ride on MTB's together, but not very often, about 8 times this year. She enjoys cycling and loves the rush of going downhill fast, but most weekends she has other plans so it is not a priority for her. That's cool, I like riding on my own so I don't pressure her to ride if she doesn't feel like it.
When we move, hopefully the quieter roads will enable us to ride more.

My wife and I used to ride a lot together. She's just getting back into it again after the birth of wee Paddy, so hopefully it'll pick up again soon. We loaded the boys up in the trailer the other weekend in fact. I was riding in front setting the pace at about 25km/h. I asked if this was fast enough for her, thinking it would be about right. 'You can go a bit faster' she says. So I go a bit faster. 'Faster' she says. And so it goes until I'm pulling 32km/h with 40-50 kilos of boy and trailer on the back.

'It feels like I'm drafting behind a bus' she calls out with glee. 'It feels like I'm pulling one' I reply.

Great fun.

My girlfriend has never showed any interest in cycling and I make no effort to encourage her because I don't want her (or anyone else) to ride with me anyway. Cycling is my refuge... an escape from telephones, pagers, work, and PEOPLE.

My wife rides ....... about once a year ....... for a few kilometres.

Maybe she'll start riding a bit more as our kids get older and we start doing the family bike ride thing.

Me and my wife do not own a car (for enviromental reasons!!!!) and therefor we both cycle to work, sometimes together, which means I did not oversleep,.

Does anyone else critisize their SO's cycling? I do.

Getting a bike for my girlfriend today so I will have a riding partner at home.

One month after meeting my husband I decided he would have to purchase a bike to keep up with me, so we went and he bought one. I took him for his first ride---35 miles....boy, he was mad!!!! His butt hurt (hee-hee), his legs hurt and everything else was achy too. He later told me he almost changed his mind about his proposal of marriage, but we are still married. He still rides!!!:D

My boyfriend reintroduced me to bikes last year. He has both a road and a mountain bike. We have not had many opportunities to ride together, mostly due to differing work schedules. This summer, we plan to ride at least 3 bike tours (of the 25-50 mile variety) together in the area. Plus, we'll be out riding just for fun when we can. We would like to rent a tandem sometime and try that out. Anyone know of places from which we could rent a tandem in the Cleveland, Ohio vicinity?

My GF and I both ride - although - her riding has been mostly road oriented and mine has been trail oriented. But, with the recent purchase of a road bike (6 days ago!!), we'll be able to ride 50+ miles together at comparable speeds. What a difference a ROAD bike makes...! :)

My girlfriend and I ride together sometimes. Usually just a few miles, but it's a fun way to spend time together.

It's hard to beat a tandem for riding with your S.O., or even with your kids. On a tandem you're both always going the same speed, its easy to talk to each other, and you don't have to ride two wide or worry about rubbing tires together. Our tandem is the "fun" bike at our house.

And the stoker has such a wonderful view.

Just a little TOO much togetherness for us. We both enjoy the opportunity to go at different speeds (I bike ahead and circle back), and, in particular, my wife likes the challenge of a hill and the feeling that she climbed it ALL BY HERSELF!!
