I wish I could, I think with all the organizations planning on protesting the administration and responding, the city will be a hot mess.

okay, okay, I'll do my best. Too bad I don't have one of those helmet cams. That would be cool.

By the way, I understand that Federal employees in DC get that day off.

I don't think CM is good for cycling. In addition, if I had the time I'd be attending an Inauguration party instead of protesting one.

So, have fun with the usual psychodrama on wheels.

It seems that there are rather a lot of Americans who think that democracy and freedom are only worthy if imposed by force on people far, far away - so yes, any time Americans rise up to defend the principles on which this country was founded, trouble is to be expected.

smartest thing I've read on these forums in a while.
I worked in DC for quite a while, saw a few presidential
parades and like it or not, the secret service does not play
games, nor will the capitol police or DC police on that particular
day.
The whole premise of CM has been lost in the party atmosphere
and the outlandish behaviour of its participants, it draws attention
to itself and not the real issues.

Yes, we are all going to be naked. I received an e-mail saying that clothed cyclist are welcomed but being nude for the CM is important. I plan on just wearing a speedo. I hope to see everyone there. We (bikeforum members) should do a meeet up if possible, any takers?

Gald to hear you'll be our witness. Yes the Feds have off that day. I wanted to work but they won't let me. So I guess I'll "have" to play.

Well, Charlie, if you have off (I don't), why don't YOU come down and be the witness and I'll telecommute? I'll get more work done that way, and maybe take off for a ride through the peaceful (well, sortof) trails of Prince Georges County. I need a change of scenery.

Unless, of course, you will be taking the whole week off, given that you have Monday off, too, and thus will be on the beaches of Key West...

I almost took the whole week off. Was going backcountry skiing in WV but since the weather has been anything but skiable; so will not go. i may just check out the dc festivities especially since the gov won't be working. It will be great to ride the empty DC streets, better than the weekend. Perhaps I'll go down, but not naked, those days are long gone.
Though the beaches do sound nice, especially 'brokens' Maui suggestion.
You can get more work done at home!! i could never do it. I would be tempted to do everything but work. Fiddle with my bikes, eat food, music, food, read, food...can't do it.

Sounds like it'll be a long and interesting commute that day. Thanks for the heads-up.
What parts of the mall are being fenced off? I was down there about two months ago with my kids riding around the mall and we had a great time.

Look, I'd love to see as many turn out in protest of the coronation as possible. But I don't think that CM is going to be let anywhere near where the action is.

Having said that: the cash strapped, primarily Democrat local govt. in DC has been asked to foot the bill for all the extra security. People there should complain to their representatives in congress - oops, they don't have any! Maybe a lot of city workers will get sick, who knows?

Also in the news: Participants in the festivities will not be allowed to go to the bathroom except when escorted by security goons. Marchers past the reviewing stand have been told not to look directly at our exalted leader and to refrain from sudden motions....

There is a movement afoot to have people turn their backs to chimpee as he passes....

So what would you be protesting? Democracy in America? GWB, whether you like it or not, won the election and the inauguration is a celebration of democracy in America. I won't be protesting Barbara Boxer being reelected. I had my protest at the ballot box. You don't get your way all the time, learn to live with it graciously, it will serve you in the long run.

Hey Just talked to a friend and he's going to Whitetail on Thurs. I'm out of Baltimore so if I go AND you can get to Balto then I'll take you. If you are in PG county take the MARC Camden line to St. Denis stop(Relay) I can pick you up there. Don't get on the express as it does not stop at St. Denis. This is if I go. Depends on the weather. I hate spending $$ for crap skiing. Charlie
