Your fleet is quite impressive. Resurrect any from the dump/sters?

Mine are all alley finds, with the exception of the Gran Rally. That was lying on someone's front lawn surrounded by 26" steel rims. Dumps around here are very particular about who salvages.

My old man sometimes brought more home from the city dump than he brought. Dive away! Don't let the good stuff go to landfill, or to someone else's stash. Once a year my town has city wide trash pick up of anything you leave in the street. I've found some good stuff on the street. I've also dumpster dived. Colleges are a great place to dive.

The 1957 Peugeot PLX8 and the 1951 CCM were pretty close to being tossed inot the bin when I saved them.

The Peugeot only needed to have it's handlebars replaced and was in nearly mint condition while the CCM started as a naked frame.

Neighbor of mine works for the city and he picked this up this winter while he was plowing. Found it in a trash can in some park, most likely stolen.. Attempted to find the original owner with no results so he ended up giving it to me. Here is an original, and how it sits now.

Could you explain that further?

I sent an e-mail to the Sanitation Division in my city, and here's the reply I got:

No, we can not allow anybody including our employees to pull stuff out of the transfer station. The City of Norman does not have a recycling permit and we would receive a fine from the state, the City has to depose of any and all items we receive. Sorry, if you should have any other question please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
What now?

I guess that would be your answer? My dump has a take or leave it designated spot that you can take from, I'm not sure about the rest of the dump.

We have a local convenience center for people to drop off trash, household goods, etc. I managed to fish this out of their dumpster.

They allow only authorized recyclers to scavenge the trash.

I live in the barrio. There's an unspoken code about what goes into your dumpster and what goes next to the dumpster. A lot of people make their livings salvaging other's throwaways. I do plumbing work as a side job. Copper & brass get thrown next to the bin. It's not worth my while to save it up, while the metal guy can make a buck off it. As I am the bike guy, I feel free to pick up the bike stuff in the alley. I do my share of minor no charge repairs.

My son found this Nishiki in a trash pile by the side of the road. Not perfect, but rideable!

I've been trying to stay off highways and find myself driving aimlessly through neighborhoods hoping to stumble upon a gem...

Here's two bikes that my dad picked up for me. They were on someone's lawn with a free sign on them.
Nice mid-size Centurion Le Mans. Very good looking bike, cottered crank and all. If it fit I might have kept it.

Can't find a picture of the Viscount. A classic bike boom 10 speed. Think it was a 60cm frame.

Most of my found bikes don't show much wear. Some show weathering, like they were left outside for a while.

My best ever dumpster find was a chrome-plated stingray with a white and flame banana seat. I was 8 years old. My parents had me report it to the police. The cops came, took my statement as to when and what dumpster I found it in, and took the bike. 60 days later, it was mine.

I feel pretty darn good with this by-the-dumpster find Kynast with all accessories and complete with a Sachs Penta Sport fiver speed hub with coaster brake.

Also, your finds are making me very hopeful!
Since we have to pay freight on our trash(it get's compacted and sent to WA to go in a landfill), you can pay the Baler facility $5 for an all-day scavenging pass on Sundays.
