My take: I for one don't think I would rent a ride to anyone I'm not riding with. Furthermore, if I'm riding with someone, I'm lending not renting. Not to mention, if I'm anywhere where I'd want to ride and NOT have my a bike. . . er. . . I fail. So for now, I guess I'm not in the demographic either way.
What say you?

If I had a reasonable bike I didn't use often, I'd probably list it. However, I doubt my area would have enough people that would participate to make it worth it.

Digging up an old thread to see if anyone has interacted with this site since this was created.
I'm going to Chicago in June and don't want to haul a bike up there so I reached out to couple people on the site about renting for a day or two. Person #1 replied and told me he had done some upgrades and now he wouldn't rent for less than double what the bike was listed at...no thanks. Person #2 replied and more or less assumed that his Cannondale was going to be too much of a rocketship for me and wanted to know what I was going to do with the bike so he could recommend something different.....I contacted you for a reason bro, if I wanted to rent a Peewee Herman bike I'd contact Dudebrah with the dreads on his profile pic.
Fail.

Though an older thread, I don't recall seeing it the first time around, so...
I'd probably do it, but I'd take a page out of the local video rental store on how they do their game systems- charge full retail as a deposit up front plus x$ per day for x#days. Then refund the deposit if returned in good shape on time or deduct extended rental fees from the deposit refund.

You know what?
I've not been on in a while and I find myself going to Oshkosh soon and perhaps not being able to take my bike. . . but for the money it's almost ship it ahead of time, pick it up, ride, box it up and ship it back home.
Or just drive up there.
Meh.

I will probably do this, list one of my vintage 12sp bikes that is in very good shape, but doesn't get much use, and in which I don't have a lot invested.
Spinlister keeps the renter's credit card on file, so that is some protection.
The rental money is incidental. I'd just like a fellow cyclist that is not from the area to be able to cycle around while away from home. May even meet some interesting people this way.
It is the kind of service I'd like to use when I am away from home without a bike.
