Standing Cadence

Now that I have a bike computer with cadence, I am trying to ride at between 80 and 90 RPM on the flats. I am finding this much better than my old style of just mashing along, focused on speed alone. My hope is to ride consistently, and gradually increase my cadence comfort zone.

I do not have any real big hills around, but there are several spots where I might encounter a 4-6% grade for a couple hundred yards. Towards the end I sometimes stand up to pedal the last 50 yards or so. I will shift to a higher gear right before I stand, but I am not sure what I should target as far as cadence.

Any guidance?

I'm just beginning to focus on cadence, but I really like variety in any exercise. Standing up on the pedals included, and I don't worry about the cadence then. I also like getting off the bike and pushing it up hills. (Very rare lately, but always a pleasant break from the routine when I do.)
