Helped get a guy arrested/stolen bike recovered.

Point form

-Hunt kijiji (craigslist canada) for a bike to buy, see *STOLEN STOLEN STOLEN* ad. Anyways that was last night so today I was driving through town and I spot the bike. I pop out of my car with my brother and try too chase him down with a pump jack rod and a flashlight but hes on a bike and obviously got away, I got back in my rav and hunted him down but couldn't find him. Replied to the ad and told the guy where I saw the guy and discribed him, 2 hours later the guy got arrested at the bmx park/bowl with the stolen bike haha! Here is the updated ad!

The 'pressing charges' part seems like a good option. Go for it.

Good luck with that one... he can claim he "bought" the bike, or a "guy" gave it to him. If they don't have physical evidence that he actually stole it they won't press charges. And they aren't going to waste any time investigating a bicycle theft.

I have had multiple bicycles stolen over the years. I managed to recover two of them and the police didn't do anything about it.

Glad to see this guy got his bike back, and Kudos to those that helped him.

Law enforcement and the court system don't take bike theft seriously so pressing charges will likely amount to jack diddly. The "I bought it" or "I got it from some guy" won't hold water as it is still possession of stolen property, but that won't make much difference. At absolute worst, the kid will get a slap on the wrist as he smirks his way through a juvy court appearance.

Around here the most the kid would be charged with would be misdemeanor possession of stolen property, in NC that might result in a sentence of 30 days probation/community service. If it even makes it to the court docket to begin with.
