Hey all,

So after my friend and I went cycling today, we loaded our bikes in the back of the truck on top of one and other like we usually do. So it ended up bending my derailer up and I will have to get a new one now

So what I need it some sort of rack where I can stand the bikes up in the back of my truck and safely drive with them there.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I should get and where to get it from?

I use the Delta fork mount in my truck, $25 at my LBS, but can be ordered for less. I used an old 2x12 I had laying around, screwed it to the top of the board. Holds the bike very secure. A lock can be added to slow down a thief.

I use a couple of the fork mounts on a 2X8. If you make up two boards, you can carry four bikes.

Why do you have the board on end like that? I have a 2X6 lying flat with three fork mounts and it works great* Just wondering what advantage the raised installation has?

* I angle the fork mounts so the handlebars are at an angle, therefore taking up less space and the bikes can be closer together. I use the same mount in my pickup and inside my Suburban.

There are slots molded into the bed for boards at different places to be used as needed. There is a slot at the front, so I just used it, and I used wedges to hold the board nice and tight, nothing moves at all. Hauling items on trailers for years, I'm a little ocd about things being secured in place. I've seen to many items fall off trucks and trailers, and I want to keep what I'm hauling. Plus with the board in the front, I don't have to remove it to haul other large items.

What I did. I think the fork mounts were $9 each. Easier to load from the side with an elevated board.

This is the way to go. Sunlite makes a less expensive version that is more than adequate for transportation, and Yakima makes a locking version. These can be easily mounted to the sides of the bed in a manner that takes up very little space, like this guy: https://www.j2davis.com/2008/01/
