Reg How many is too many How do you get rid of one???

The first bike I have owned in 15 years is a Xmart FS MTB that I got at a pawn shop for $25 to ride with my (then 8 year old) daughter. Now I have 2 other (LBS bikes) that are much better in every respect. But this cheepie has let me have a lot of fun, has me back in an active lifestyle and has never let me down. Selling it for 25 bucks seems a disservice to a noble machine, so I will probably give it away. But how do you get rid of old bikes??? Don't you form some sort of emotional attachment????

Ask your LBS of bike related charitable organizations?

Lots of us become attached to that first bike. I myself still have my first real road bike, 22 years and counting, and still ride it. If you want to get rid of the bike and feel good, find a deserving kid who either can't afford a bike, or just had his bike stolen. It will make his day, and yours too.

I have an old Rocky Mountain Cirrus frame I bought second hand years ago. It was/is too big for me, has been put through hell, the headtube is ovalized from too may build ups, and it now sits on the floor in my basement workshop still dirty from winter commuting almost two years ago. I even still have the old orignal air/oil RS 1 that came with it.

Get rid of it? Not on your life.

Bike co-ops are a great place to donate bikes/parts.
Non-profit and you can be sure that the bikes/parts will be used.
The one here in Cleveland uses donated bikes to teach inner-city kids mechanical skills and road safety. When the kids have completed enough hours they get to keep the bike.

I tend to form emotional attachment to my "next" bike.
