Being hassled when riding...

Stopped again on my ride by some rent-a-cop back in an industrial park (well, they have said they are security, but they have never presented any ID). Told me the road was private property. (2nd time in the last few weeks).

No signs saying anything, other than ???? Industrial park. The road goes in front of the building, and at the end, there is a security gate with keyed card access (I never go there).

Many businesses back there. The business in question is fenced in, and they have their name on the fence, but that doesn't say they own the road in front! Was told by Skippy the security guard (they hate it when I call them Skippy, but again, no uniform, in his own car) I have been warned, he would have to call the cops.

I told him to please do!

So normally I ride up the road and turn around and come back. Today I did it 5 times, but still no cops., I'll try again tomorrow

Maybe I'm being a turd, but I have ridden this route for more than a year, and I feel I need more proof than some snot nose kid telling me I can't ride there. I told them to post a Private Property sign, and I will abide.

It's aggravated trespass if you've been warned and you persist. That moves it from a violation to a misdemeanor. At least that's what I was told the last time I was warned not to come back somewhere.

Google Maps may give a clue if the street is private property.
Here is a link to some privately-owned streets:

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Louisv...orado&t=m&z=16

This was the former StorageTek campus before Sun bought them, then Sun was devoured by Oracle. I think Sun sold the campus before being swallowed by Oracle.

Look at these streets: Tape Dr, Disc Dr, Quality 1st Ave. Note how Google shows them as thin gray lines even though they look like regular streets via Streeview. Heck the Google car has even driven some. They have small signs noting they are privately owned, but StorageTek never prohibited traffic on them.

Maybe as soon as someone in "Authority" says something, but a kid in a car is not an "Authority" in my book.

It may very well be private property depending on who paid for the roads when they initially built the park. Let us know how it goes when you get ticketed

If someone "with" authority hired him and enabled him, he has all the authority he needs....

BTW, that is not being "hassled"

I am seriously not trying to break your balls, and I might react as you are in the same situation, but if the kid IS security and he has warned you off, you are just looking for a problem. Why not call reception during business hours, talk to the facilities manager, and get the scoop from him?

Doesn't he have to show me some kind of ID? I can say I'm the king of England, but that doesn't make it so.

He doesnt have to show you anything. You've been warned. His next step , should you persist, is a simple call to 911.

He will have to show ID and prove relationship to the owner (employee/contracted/etc) while they're serving you with the trespass warrant however.

I don't know, just maybe, you are being a turd, is the kid in uniform? Usually people don't hang-out at buildings for free and tell people to beat it. Personally, I would avoid that section until you call the business for confirmation, like someone suggested. If that section is important to you, call and get permission to ride it.
There is a section where I ride that is blocked by a security guard, got to know him and now he lets me pass. Best 3 mile climb ever, no cars, people or other bikers to worry about.

Nope, in his own car in non-uniform, and actually he came up behind me, not from the actual property. Pulled over in front of me to say his piece. I guess I like to question authority. I'll follow the rules, as long as I know for sure they are rules. Like I said, they do have a carded entrance to the facility, but I don't go there. No guards.

You might want to check in with the county. They have diagrams of all the properties in the county and who owns it. That will get you the information you need.

As ex-military, an occasional hunter, and an angler, I know that in MOST states "no trespassing" signs must be posted every so many feet. If these signs do not exist I would recommend you force this individual to call the police, call his bluff. Check the laws in your state about the placement of signs before you do this. As a veteran, I hate it when people try to enforce "rules" that do not exist. In the past, when confronted by such idiots, I return later wearing my "Operation Iraqi Freedom" hat and dare them to tell me where I can not go. Again, I warn you to check the laws of your state, maybe even go to the local Sheriff department and get the info first hand.

Don't try that in Georgia.
Fishing or hunting on land that you don't own or have prior permission to enter is trespassing and poaching, signs or no signs. If you return after being told to leave you will be arrested for assault as well. Your vehicle, gun, and fishing rod will be taken and sold at auction, hat or no hat.

The state of Georgia defines trespassing as knowingly entering private property with the intent of committing a crime. You know you don't own the land and you know you don't have permission to hunt or fish it. You will go to jail. You will be charged $660 for hunting on another's land and an additional $660 for hunting without permission, as well as face criminal trespassing charges, and possible assault charges. You will also be charged $100 per fish in possession.

Reminds me of when they used to have the PGA golf tournament at one of our county courses. The bike trail ran on the park road. On my commute home I would blow past the volunteer checking credentials at the entrance and wait for the "security" golf cart to try to catch me. I got caught once and told the "head of security" that he better find a county sheriff with a gun and a badge to tell this taxpayer he couldn't ride on a county park road during the tournament. Had a nice chat with the sheriff who understood my point that a guy in a polo shirt and golfcart had no jurisdiction over me and went a different way the rest of the week.

Oh I will. In the research mode now. Have to go by the county courthouse and get a plat. May take me a few days. My wife wants me to just drop it, change my route. While I don't take a lot of crap from others, I do from her
