brooks saddle
i guess i went off deep end,,going to buy one worth 10 times more than my bike....schwinn sprint i guess i keep it when bike gives out.........
|
My 'Pro' is 36 years old.
|
If it looks good and you have the ca$h, then why not?
|
My bike was $40 off C-list and the B-17 was $80 from Nashbar. It has been worth it.
|
I also have a bike with a brooks that's worth more than the bike. I do feel it's a little jackassy, since it's also a single speed, but I put the miles on it to justify it. Haters gonna hate and all that.
|
I could buy a helluva nice bike for all the money I have tied up in Brooks saddles...:innocent:
Aaron :) |
I recommend that you try one before you make the investment. Some people actually don't like them. I have a B17. I like it, but it is not nirvana. There are probably lots of cheaper saddles that would be equally comfortable for me, maybe some that are better.
|
Love mine, just purchased my second.
both bikes that have them on are worth less than the seat! Oh well, my butt is happy. |
I have over 3,000 miles on my B-17 and it is still looks like it did when new, but still not yet broken in. I see others that look well used and comfy, maybe a few more thousand miles wiil do it for me. Maybe I should leave it out in the rain for an hour or two :-)

I know there is Brooks cult here but I hated mine and found happiness on a Concor Selle San Marco, and, then a Fitzik.
|
Fiz:ik for me. Brooks did not work.

Brooks are ugly, ancient, and over hyped. At least in my opinion. I've ridden all of my room mate's many bikes, all of which have some sort of brooks saddle on them. Not a single one has been any more or less comfortable than my boring old wtb road saddle. YMMV.

I've found (over a lifetime of riding) that at about the 3-hour mark in a ride is where saddle comfort comes into play. The right saddle won't be fighting you or irritating you with unwanted pressure, or worse, causing pain.
On a full-day ride, the correct saddle pays for itself. I've not yet met a padded saddle that can pass the 3-5 hour test, but I've ridden several leather saddles that can and do. |
Back in the '80s I gave up on my Pro after about a thousand miles. It was still hard as a rock. I switched to the venerable Selle Italia Turbos and lived quite happily with those for decades.

You can't tell anything based on a test ride on someone else's bike. Go ride a few 200Ks on various saddles and get back to us when you actually have some experience.
Seriously, though. I'm glad that you like your brooks enough to advocate for it in such a hostile way. |
my 2 cents...
just bought my first brooks, a b-17, a few months ago. break in is done and I love this thing. best seat I've ever had. I'm so mad at myself for not getting one sooner. |
For me, its the best investment ive made on my bikes.
