Continental Bike tires
I been hearing from people that Continental tires are made from Germany. The one I brought recently says Made in India. Did I just buy a fake or counterfeit tire??

I believe Continental makes some of their tires in Germany, and outsources others, depending on the particular model. If you search their website, you will see certain tires with a "Handmade in Germany" badge on the page. Presumably, the ones that don't have this badge are made elsewhere. So, no, it's probably not a counterfeit you have.

Some are made in Germany. The OEM tires from my bike are Continental made in Taiwan. I just bought a Continental made in India tire which I'm returning...the tire width is way off, like 7mm off.

i see. i installed it on my bike and it fit well. my rim are 26x1.5 and brought the 26x1.6 conti sports contact tire.

If you go with the Continental Grand Prix 4000-S, its made in Germany.

They're a German company. The tires are made wherever they need them to be made within the context of their business model. If they'd been counterfeit, I guarantee you they would not have said "Made in India" on them.

Continental is a very big company and it has a web site for corporate information. I searched it and under "tires" and "Asia", I found this
http://www.conti-online.com/generato.../asien_en.html They also have a contact email feature too: http://www.conti-online.com/generato...ontact_en.html |

Having the horse-shoe shaped treads. |
I needed something decent for cheap so I bought a pair Ultra Sports and noticed they're made in China. A month or so later I pulled some GP 4000 S's off another bike and noticed the "made in Germany" stamp. I guess they've either sold out, or they outsource the cheapies.

Don't you think that a counterfeit would have used the applicable "made in" location?

I think only the better quality tires are made in Germany — like my GP4000s. :)

My continental studded tires are made in Finland; are they counterfeit, :)?
