Biggest bike geek
 

Who's the biggest bike geek at bikeforums? I don't mean to patronize or anything like that, everybody here is a bike geek! But when I think of it, RainmanP, Mike, and Rich come to mind first.

Fubar, since I don't understand the word "GEEK" (except as an old carnival term for a particular kind of side show) your references to Rainman, Mike and Rich are lost on me. These guys all seem knowledgeable and have opinions about bikes and the mechanics of bike repair. Is that what a "Geek" is. If so, then almost everyone on these Forums is a "Geek" because we all express opinions and attempt solutions for our fellow members.

Fubar, this in't a ---what's the word you young guys use ? Flame?-- just a request for a definition of your use of the "Geek" reference. I hope you are aware that I like you and have a good deal of respect for you --even if you are a wise-a$$ kid.:D

A "bike geek" is, in my understanding of cycling jargon, someone who knows more about the technical details of a bike than they do about the food preferences of their provider-of-sexual-benefits. Someone who knows and appreciates the difference between Record and Chorus, who can re-assemble a Dura Ace rear derailleur within fifteen minutes using his bare hands whilst blindfolded, and who will spend $75 to purchase a set of carbon-fiber skewers to shave ten grams off the weight of their bicycle, but takes a double-helping of lasagna at the dinner table. :D

Namely, someone with incredible technical knowledge of bikes.

Fubar, you obviously have never seen me on a bike. Who else would use a RS SID XC on a Mongoose NX7-1, complete with blinkies and 1.5" slicks w/ fenders? Function first, fashion last...that makes true bike geek.

LOL!!! I don't mean bike geek in a bad way, I meant as someone who is crazy about bikes!!!
Kind of like there are computer geeks, and they are people who know tons about computers, and spend all of their time thinking about computers and playing games or programming stuff.
SoO when I was thinking of who is the biggest bike geek here, RainmanP, Mike and Rich all popped into my head at the same time. Rich is crazy about Cyclocross and retro stuff, and RainmanP and Mike are both guys who don't drive cars and know alot about wrenching.
But everybody here is a bike geek, I was just wondering who you thought of first.

Matadon and Fubar, thank you for your definitions. I will sleep better tonight knowing I haven't achieved yet another label. The one my great grandson has bestowed on me is hard enough to live down ....phlfsht, is what he calls me as he loads the backside of his diaper onto my lap. --and then he slaps my face, as though it were my fault.

I just saw this thread and feel immensly complimented to be considered a bike geek by my bicycling commrades at BF.C.

You won't find me biting the head(set) off of any two-wheelers soon, though.

My thirst fought was Mike. He's a bike-geek times 52 (give or take a bike.)

As for Raymond, he's a geek, anyway... :D

Funny how the word "geek" used to be derogatory, now it's a badge of honor. Oops, sorry, "honour". Note to self: Must be politically correct.

Geek is the most desirable label possible.

This thread reminds me of the Bob Dylan song, "Ballad of a Thin Man":

In much of the electronics industry, the term "geek" is a compliment.

Joe has got to be the " King Geek. "
