Road Bike Shifters (Suggestings)
 

I have been looking at road bike shifters. I was hoping to get a 2x9 set of shifters. I just have one problem that is the cost. I I have looked Campagnolo, sram's and Shimmano's line up. I just find the cost out outrageous. Its just a ratchet and pawl with a lever for the brakes. Does any one know of a set of these style of shifters that provide equal or what they feel is Superior shifting quality, and durability, of a Shimmano 105/Ultegra. That is reasonable priced.

You can get Microshift. Very good shifter and a lot cheaper, around $100.

Shifters can be the most expensive component on a bike. When my son, grandson and I pieced together a beater bike from parts that we had on hand, we realized that shifters was the deal breaker. Fortunately I had a set of Ultegra 9-speed 'brifters on hand.

You could try a set of bar end shifters. That is what I am going with on my cx build.

Ratchets, pawls, superior shifting, 105 quality, and cheap (on Ebay) -- check! ;)

If you look further down the price list, you will find things cost less.
8 speed drivetrains cost less in the long run too, as chains an cassettes wear
and need be replaced, with use..

Tiagra Sora.. etc.
want the more shiny stuff , used is a place to look..

Microshift makes good brifters in 9 and 10 speed flavors. They also make Nashbar's house-brand and they make the Forte brand shifters. Incidentally, Microshift makes bar-end shifters, too.

I have a set (the only non-friction shifters I own on half a dozen bikes currently in my stable, as a matter of fact) of the Nashbar branded 3x10 shifters, and have used them quite a bit for about a year, now. I have no complaints whatsoever with them. I paid about $150, shipping included.




With that said, I do tend to like bar-end shifters and stem shifters better. I like being able to easily trim out any chain noises.

I see, well I just will keep my eye out for used stuff then.
