Creating Electricity with Bikes
 

Hey all
im new here and want to know about anybody who has built, has available for renatal or any information at all on creating usable, stable electricity using bikes.
the only people i know of who are activley doing this are out in vancouver and didnt get back to me about anyone in toronto doing the same.

Electricity for your home?

The absolute best bikers can generate up to 1 horsepower which is about 745.699872 Watts (google)
I put out about half of that.

What do you plan to use this for?

Mabie we should make all TV and computers powered by pedal generators.
Sure would solve the health problems in the USA.

Good idea.....just stop pedaling during commercials.....interval training....plenty of rest.....

I just saw it in mechanics...

not necessarily...just to make one to power an art installation (projector/computer) or part of an event.
what i am doing is a green energy awareness and implementation party/fundraiser.
we want to power part (or all ;) of the event with clean energy as a statement and educational tool.

and the tv/computer idea is great! made me laugh cuz its true...

i posted it twice as i didnt know quite where it fit and i REALLY need to get this off the ground...

You mean like girls in silk teddies riding bikes between two sheets of plastic?

The best bikers can put out a lot more than that, they just can't do it for very long.

yeah you can buy these things... seems like i saw an add for one in the back of a Home Power magazine once

anyway, you'll have problems actually using the energy for anything unless you have a nice inverter and batteries... you won't have anything like 60 Hz 120 volt smooth stuff... you could use this on a small light bulb or something for demonstration... or depending on the voltage, you could get people to hold one of the lead wires from the terminals to get a jolt (not recommended)

you might be able to produce 250 watts aerobically... if you did that for an hour, you would produce 0.25 kilowatt-hours of energy... i think that electricity is about $0.07 per kW-hr where i live...

for your one hour of effort... $0.0175
