National Bike Registry (should I bother?)

Just bought a new bicycle. Should I bother with registering it in the National Bike Registry?
Do they have any track record in helpfing to recover a stolen bicycle?

Thanks

As long as you keep a record of the bike's details yourself, I don't understand any advantage to paying them the money. Just record the model, serial number, where purchased, and if it's stolen, you can report it.

Hmm. I didn't know about that!

I suspect that the probabilistic value you get for $10 is very small. Lottery tickets are a waste of money but likely have more value.

Check with your local government. Many offer free registration and tamperproof stickers to add to your bike as an aid to theft recovery.

Ask the local constabulary if they ever check there when receiving property
after arresting the Perps?

"Send me 10 bucks and I'll list your bike for 10 years, and if it gets stolen and not returned, I'll list your next bike for free!"

Brilliant! I sure wish I was had come up with this scheme.
