Wind speed versus grade of incline?

I commute to work, and I live at the mouth of a canyon. EVERY morning there are 10-20 mph winds, and I ride into them for almost 2 miles. It feels like I'm going uphill for 2 miles, even though the road is perfectly flat.

Just for curiosity's sake, does anyone know what mph wind is equivalent to what % incline on a hill? I would like an idea of how hard I'm working.

It depends a lot on how heavy you are and how aerodynamic you are. If you google around, you can find some online calculators that let you put in different wind speeds and inclines that might give you some idea.

20 MPH winds are pretty high; you'll definitely notice those...

Cheers,
Charles

Dunno, but I have had to pedal DOWNHILL in my lowest gear into a 40 mph headwind!
