Solution for the broken u-lock mount problem
Hello!
I’ve heard a lot about this problem with the U-locks. Their mounts are verycheap plastic and they end up useless after some rides. So I came up with this solution for my girlfriend’s bike (which has a very small triangle and the mount doesn’t fit). It works brilliantly and its very easy to mount and dismount on your bike. It’s actually just two bunjee cords holding the Lock from touching the rack and few pieces of inner tube to keep the hooks in place. You don’t have to take the cords out everytime you dismount the lock, just hook them on the rack. http://www.bikehacks.com/bikehacks/2...rage-hack.html |
Why is the U-lock floating? I just lay mine on top of the rack, then tie it down with a toe clip strap. cinch it down tight and it doesn't make rattling noises.

xenologer good question! I've read about many cases that by clinch it down on the rack the shocks of the bumps will destroy the lock within a year. And some cold day you're going to open the lock and will not respond.

Ive been carrying Kryptonite on the racktop for about 30years and it hasn't broken so far.
I stretch a bungee chord across the top of the rack, either a long one from the lower hook of the rack, or a short one wrapped around the top. The shackle is placed under the bungee with the loop wedged under the front stop of the rack. There is no rattle, the rack is available in an instant, no toeclip to mess with. In a defensive scenario, I can grab the shackle and go to work. The pannier fitting (Klickfix or Ortleib) works with a looped bungee chord with no interference. I do have to remove the lock to fit the pannier but the bike is often locked up at that point. |
... I've read about many cases .. |
I've never had a problem with Kryptonite lock holders. Is it just me?
