hi
where can i find a detailed map of the Gap trail between Pittsburgh and D.C.
one that would show all routes,camp grounds,hostels,hotels, bike shops and stores.
also all points of interest.im sure alot of you have ridden it. what is best time of year to do it?

I am so 'friggin tired of reading posts from folks that write as if they are texting. It reads like it's sent from a 15 year old and I find myself caught by the poor grammatical writing skills and thus not getting the message in the post. I almost never bother replying as a result.

The link provided by 10 Wheels - http://www.atatrail.org/ - will cover the stretch from near Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Md. The stretch between Cumberland and Washington, DC, is the C&O Canal and is covered by this link: http://www.nps.gov/choh/index.htm . I strongly suggest gettings maps and brochures from both websites.

I've ridden parts of both. The GAP Trail is a nice hard-packed trail with several nice small towns along the way ... very well-maintained. The C&O Canal trail is more remote in some places and not as well-maintained in general. There are some parts that are pretty rough.

I think just about anytime between April/May and September/October could work. In the higher elevations along the GAP, you might have to deal with cold temperatures and snow in early April or late October. Also along the GAP, there are a few towns that are popular tourist/"adventure" draws during the summer months so plan accordingly. I actually had a trip planned along most of the GAP for the first weekend in November - just a couple of months ago - that we had to cancel due to snow.

I for one dont give a rats ass how "pure" the writing is on these threads. As long as the point or question get across, it is fine with me. Actually to me, nitpicking grammer, a typo, or a misplaced comma is just as bad as the transgression.

The other thing about the nitpicking is it may turn off new posters.

As this is an international forum in scope based in American-usage English, it behooves the native speakers to set an example of correct usage for the non-native speakers. How else do they improve their skills? Oh, yeah: I fixed your linguistic disaster, too.
