Putting some sort of silicone gripper material on STI levers?
 

I'm thinking of putting some sort of silicone gripper stickers or something on my Shimano ST-5700 brake levers. The idea is that maybe since you're not directly touching metal, the levers will be less cold to the touch; if it also improves grip, then even better.

What do you think? Where can I buy what I need? Are there similar ideas to try?

Gloves?

Gloves work, but there are times when it's warm enough for open-fingered gloves, but the metal levers become uncomfortably cold for a short period (e.g. a descent, a ride through a microclimate, etc). It'd be nice if the levers are somewhat insulated and you're not touching bare metal.

After a brief research, I found that wrappers are very common with motorcycle levers. They have everything from braided leather to silicone tubes. These probably won't work with STI levers, but maybe something as simple as a small strip of adhesive-backed felt sheets from arts and crafts supply store will do.

I've used liquid electrical tape on knobs, switches, gear shifts, transfercase levers, and all kinds of other stuff. It works great right out of the can. Works best when you rough up the surface with some sand paper and wipe it clean with alcohol.
