I picked up my new Trek 520 today! I haven't even able to take her for a ride yet :( I had them put on a 44/32/22 crankset. I'm going to change the rear rack and put on a front rack too. Thinking about fenders? The Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase, 700x32c are a little slick for me so I hope my Continental Top Touring 2000 700x28s will fit. My first ride will decide if the saddle stays. Not the best pictures but all I have is a cheap digital camera.

Trek 520, I christen thee 'Happy' !!!!

Yep, Thats BFC! I think Carbondale Cycle has Treks but Bernie is the best thing for cycling around here,so I bought it off him.
Sad to hear that the Little Egypt bike club folded up.

Love is insanity.

I was looking at specs on your new ride at the Trek website. It didn't say whether there are mid fork eyelets for a front rack. Are there?

Guest 02-06-05 04:11 PM

Congrats on your new ride, dood!

:)

She has an eyelet midway and at the end of the fork. I ordered PlanetBike fenders today from Performance. Will I have to mount the fender braces and front rack to the eyelet at the bottom of the fork? She came with double eyelets on the back and single on the front(and the one midway up the fork).

I just hung Planet Bike Freddy Fenders (love that name!) on my project bike last week. Yes, you will mount the fender and rack both to the same eyelet. Use a longer bolt if need be.

You can find a pdf of the manual at planetbike.com. Just go to the fenders page, the link is at the bottom. I tried to post the link here, but couldn't get it to work.

On the rear, mount the fender to the lower eyelets and the rack to the upper eyelets.

Thanks Reg!

$?

hillyman 02-07-05 05:49 PM

Treks website says $1200. Bernie at BFC said the price was $1100. I asked him for a 44/32/22 instead of the 52/42/30 ( I couldn't push a 52 tooth gear riding down SlickRock!), he deducted the price difference on the cranks.
$1028.76 tax included.
With what $ Reg has poured into his project bike, making his LBS his second home and all the skin still on my knuckles, I don't think I did too bad :p

Sounds like you did great. You wanted a bike to ride. I wanted a bike to work on. I actually haven't lost too much blood or used the name of the Lord in vain more than a couple of times.

Enjoy your new scoot!

Your bike will always be cooler for sure. I hope to see it at the next Hilly ride.
What I need is more riding time. Looks like another once a week riding year. Oh well, you have to take what life gives you.

Definitely back in Italy. Probably back in Switzerland also. Hills are a killer for me, but I like challenge fersheezy. Hopefully Spain in the late fall for the fun of it.

Hey, Hillyman! I followed the link to the hilly page. Those pics are NOT what Hilly looked like in '04. This is what hilly looked like in '04:

I like the Three Sisters photo at the website!
I just road Saturday in the WIND and cold. Saturday night was real cold in a tent. Sunday started cold but got pretty nice later didn't it? I went to the Temple in Bloomington on Sunday.

Just for Sundays ride. I didn't make it there last year and I guess that was a good thing. Bernie said it got washed out?

I have Planet Bike Fenders on my Jamis Aurora and I used the same hole for both the front rack and fender. I can't remember if the fender or the rack came with a plastic sleeve but that is how they went on, the fender on the inside, a long bolt with a plastic sleeve over it keeping the front rack off the fender part. Interestingly enough the front rack I have did not line up with my braze on so I ended up just using the u clamps that came with the rack.

heybulldog 02-11-05 11:47 PM

I was thinkin' that it was Saturday that was a wash out last year. Sunday was a bit cool but a good ride or was that two years ago? Seems the older I get the less I remember. oh well maybe i'll see you there on sunday this year.

hillyman 02-12-05 01:47 PM

Heybulldog! Are you still using your Brooks saddle? I was thinking about getting one.
If you see me at The Harmony you will probably pass by me like I was sitting still with that new ride of yours :)
