helmet and cycling clothes

I have a Giro helmet, but it's narrow on me, and I feel pressure points on the left and right side of my head whenever I put them on. The nearest bike shop is 20 miles away, and they only have Bagtrok (or something), and they fit exactly like my Giro. I'm wondering if you guys know what brand would be good to try out.

In addition, I'm trying to get a pair of cycling outfit for my long distance rides. My goal is to do my first century by summer. But even though I will wear it a lot, I'm fresh out of college, AND I just moved, so I'm trying my best to not reach my credit line. I think my best bet would be bikesdirect, but I'm new to this, and have no idea what a competitive price would be. Any suggestions in these two things would be greatly appreciated.

1. Have you tried loosening the helmet?
2. Have you tried Bell helmets?
3. Have you looked up what Nashbar has to offer?

1. I could, but I'd like it to fit my head better
2. I did briefly at one point. But I'll have to try one out when I go to houston this weekend
3. I will, thanks.

I don't know where you live, but given that you have fitting issues, trying them on seems imperative. Walmart, REI, anybody that else that sells bikes (either high or low end). Cheaper helmets are probably less likely to fit comfortably, but if they do fit well then that's something to consider.

Also, trying on your friends helmets for size isn't a horrible idea, either.

Good luck,
Charles

Specialized helmets fit different than Giros. Same with bell helmets. If you have an REI near, you can see a whole wall of helmets in their bike section usually.

Different model helmets of the same brand often fit differently as well. For example, the Specialized Prevail does not work for me but their lower priced Echelon fits my head very well.

I've found Specialized helmets to fit me quite comfortably. I tried a Garneau helmet about a year ago and there was too much wiggle room on the sides, so it didn't stay put. Maybe the Garneau models would be a better fit for you.

It's about as difficult a question as trying to tell someone else what saddle fits their butt best.

The biggest helmets i know are from smith optics and the most secure are certified Snell B95
