Save yourself a ton of money, liability and stress. Ditch the car. In a severe emergency, take a taxi.

I've never owned a car in my life. When I was younger (in high school), I used to drive my mother's big Buick, but that was only about a year and a half. Since then, I've been car free. It's been more than 20 years since I last drove a car!
I've lived in big cities most of my life so I never needed a car just to go somewhere close by. (The exception, as I mentioned above, was when my family lived in the suburbs during jr. high and high school.) And I've never had the urge to own a car just to own a car, simply because everyone else has one.
The thing is, over the years I've gradually moved from the East Coast to the West Coast in the U.S. and stayed for a few years in the Midwest. Except for NYC, everywhere I've been to the dominant mentality has been: "Huh? What? You don't own a car??? Really??? Oh..." and then they slowly back away and stare at me as though I have a tumor growing out the side of my head.
Even here in California, where people are supposed to be so much into health, fitness and eating well and caring about the well-being of the environment and all that, almost every other person I meet drives an SUV and when people see some new sports car, they oooh and aaah and swoon like they've just fallen in love. *Sigh*... Look at our "governator," he drive a Hummer...
I'm not against cars because they're a practical necessity in many ways, but I do wish we didn't have such a national obsession over automobiles. I've visited and lived in a few other countries in Europe and Asia and I know not everyone everwhere is as into "car culture" as Americans are.

I dont have a car!
but then again im 14. BUT i dont see where i would want one. I can pretty much support myself without a car. there might be some small things where i would want a car, but not enough things to convince me to start saving now.

I have a car, but wish I didn't. I go to school 2 hours away from home and I have to go home every once in a while (but wish I didn't). Also it snows around here and public transportation basically doesn't exist. I'm either going to grad school or med school next year, and if I go to grad school I want to go to Colorado. If I go there I plan on selling my car.
When I get older I want to be able to bike to work. When I get married my wife can have a car and then I can use it for the occasional trip.

True it sometimes is inconvenient if i need to go like 10 miles and its cold out or rainy, many times i just don't go, and if i had a car i would have gone-- wherever.
I have saved a lot of money on gas and car insurance since then-- i have spent zero on either of those since nov 2003. That helps a bunch when you don't have much cash to begin with as i do.

There is a small delivery business who uses them here, sure keeps the fuel costs down.
