Ok hears my question last week I bought a set of bontranger comfort tires for my mtb that I use as a winter commuter yesterday I was riding to work herd a pop then air leaking I made it about halfway to work when it went flat when I got to work I pulled out the tube and found a nail in it I patched the hole only to find two more that I think were a result of the nail as I pushed my bike to work so I went and bought some slime tire liners and put them in both tires (I ride through some bad parts of town at 2 and 3 in morning and the idea of a flat scares me a little) so pump my tires up ride home every things cool I ride work today great I leave work IM cutting through a parking lot and I here air so ride hard back toward work block shot cool go in look at my same tire as yesterday and it has a big slice in it the tire liner took most of it but not all now I need a new tire because you can see the tire liner from the big slice any way do you think this is just dumb luck or do I have to much air in my tires I have them at 70 psi any suggestion

Run the mfg suggested air pressure in your tires and don't run over nails. The overinflation did not cause a nail to bite your tire nor did it cause the open flesh wound that will almost certainly force you to get a new tire.

I don't like Slime. Just hides problems. Best to just deal with them. In your case you are concerned because of your commuting route. I would look at a tire with Kevlar or that is heavy on flat resistance.

Bad Luck just happens sometimes. I have gotten two flats (one front then one back) within just a few miles. Then less than 5 miles later break a spoke. Don't have another flat for 8 months. Take Care and be careful at 3:00 in the morning. There are some crazy drivers out at that time. But not as many. :)

Your recommended tire pressure will be stamped on the side of the tire. I would forget the liners and get actual slime. I run it in my MTB tires and very rarely flat. And i ride on mainly unpaved, country roads. I have probably had 5 flats in well over 7000 miles.

no it was like 2 in the afternoon and it was a finsh nail plus here in michigan we had alot of snow noe it has melted leaving alot of crap on the edge of the roads because they dont run street sweepers till sping i guess there was nail on the raod

I pick up nails on occasion especially when I road a hybrid. The tire was wider. Always had a problem close to where someone was installing a new roof. Can never see those little suckers.

Don't blame the tires. Few tires can stand up to driving a nail into them. And the large slice was surely caused by riding over a large piece of glass. Riding amongst the debris is going to be nothing but trouble. Get your mind (and bike) out of the gutter.

4 flats in four days on two different bikes. My Karma Cup must have been low at that time.

Replaced one fairly worn tire, double tubed the rear of the other and have been blissful since.

For what it is worth, I have never had a puncture with Conti top touring 2000s. I have had flats, like when the stem separated from the tube, or when I put in a patched tube (don't do that). The downside of these fantastic tires? 35 bucks a pop, and are a huge chore to get them on. But I have only had to deal with them when I change out the actual tire.

A few years ago I left home one morning for my often travelled 60 mile loop north of town. I had a spare tube and a brand new glueless patch kit, enough to cover 7 flats. I had 8. All kinds of different stuff I ran over. Every small, sharp object in Oklahoma was attracted to me that day. Had to call my wife on the cell phone and have her come get me. I don't think I've had 8 flats total other than that day.

I had 4 in 4 days when I started.. almost threw me off commuting. I put in liners, slime, and changed my route to one with less debris. No problem now. only 2 flats in 2 years since.
