How do you read new BF posts?
I have my way of sorting through the many posts that accumilate on this board per day. Its probably pretty basic, I just click on the View New Posts and look for interesting thread subjects or ones that I have responded to or posted. It does get a little overwhelming though if I don't check it for a couple of days or so. Then I wonder if I am over looking good ones because I may not have much time.
I was wondering what are the habits of you others? Do you pay attention to the thread subjects or where the thread is posted. And how do you manage to check out a back logue of posts after time away? Dave |
I have bookmarked this link: http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?s=&action=getdaily (link). The get daily link will pull all posts in the last 24hours.

I only read a few of the forums regularly and dip into a couple of others very occasionally, so I just look in them and scan for threads that pique my interest, or that I have posted in. Threads that started out interesting but are starting to degenerate I tend to skip as well. In all I probably only read 10% of the total number of threads
If I read every new post I'd never get any work done. I get little enough done as it is. |
I use the view new posts option, and go through most of them - ignoring BMX stuff, and increasingly any threads that seem to be getting me riled.

And how do you manage to check out a back logue of posts after time away? I wish I was able to lock out certain forums in which I have no interest. that would be my one improvement I would like Joe to make. The ability to select which forums I view and don't. |
I quickly check "Your Control Panel" for any PM's, then I read any posts in "Mountain Bikes", then I'll use the "View New Posts" to see if there is anything of interest. If not, I'll go into Mechanics then Road, then General Discussion. To see if there is any thread I've missed that seems interesting.
I open up in the morning and check back throughout the day. I also like to spend time in "Introductions" to see who's new and say hello to them. L8R |
DnvrFox, I agree that would be an excellent improvement for Bikeforums. I don't have much interest in some other forums and I would like to lock them out too.

Denver and Dave, i'll look into this. The makers of the forum software are coming out with v3 later this year. I think this may be a standard feature at that time, including dozens of other features and options.

I also use the "View New Posts" link when I sign on to Bikeforums. If I've been away for awhile, I generally skim the list for interesting topics, ignoring BMX. If I don't have time to go through all of the lists, so be it. Yeah, I might be missing out on stuff, but I figure that I can always use the 'search' option if there's a specific topic I'm seeking. :)

Since I sit in front of a computer all day (tech support :crash: ) I just click on each forum I'm interested in and read new posts and refresh my memory reading some of the old posts. Old people have memory problems.
Reading BF helps me keep my sanity between 9am and 6pm. |
