My sister-in-law is looking to get a bike for my brother for Father's Day. He's not a cyclist and never will be. The bike is just to ride at home with the kids and also to ride around paved campgrounds. If he puts more than 5-10 miles a year on it I'd be shocked. A Walmart hybrid looks to be in the future for them.

With that said, my brother is about 6' and 220 lbs. What would be a good size for him?

I'm 6'3" and ride a 64cm, with enough seat post showing that I'm sure it would fit a rider his size. A 62 would probably work for him, too. I would not take the advice of a 5'8" Walmart clerk on what to buy for a tall guy.

Velo, unless you buy USED, buying a bike sized by the frame just about doubles the price -- then you get into fitting the guy to it. Somebody who rides like the guy she's describing WOULD be a waste on a better bike. Most likely, he's the type of guy who thinks you're SUPPOSED to put both feet down and stay seated at a stop, and sit perfectly upright while pedaling.

I guess short people can't learn about bike sizing, eh? I'll let my co-worker (5'9", MTB racer and mechanic) know he's disqualified.

Best thing you/they can do- establish a budget and let him pick it out. What looks comfortable to her may not feel comfortable to him, even if he isn't going to be riding that much.

Frame size ismore about Leg length.stand over clearance, not so much overall toe to head height.
