Used brooks saddle

I have the chance to buy a lightly used Model 67S Brooks saddle tomorrow for a good price. It is characterized as "almost new". The seller took it off his cruiser bike because it didn't fit him and he replaced it with a big comfort seat he says. He apparently took the front end apart thinking that was how to remove it, I'm assuming the nut and screw tensioning device.

Is this difficult to put back together?

Is this a red flag or just the fumblings of an inept rider? How many pieces should there be?

Is there a picture of the assembly in normal order anywhere on the web? I haven't found one.

Can I order any missing pieces from Brooks or other?

Are there any other things to look for in evaluating the seat?

What is the difference between the 67 and the 67S? I went to the Brooks site and identified his saddle from the picture. I think his picture came from the online site or a reseller's site.

I always hate buying like this, but it is a good deal and I have been thinking about getting a Brooks anyway. I wasn't thinking about a sprung seat, does that make a big difference? I'm not sure what the different applications are.

Oh well, lots of questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wallingford bike in NO LA has Parts. http://www.wallbike.com/brand/brooks .. 67S is shorter nose to back.

Sprung seats work best with an upright riding position. What kind of bike are you putting this on?

I have a Cannondale Adventure 2 hybrid bike with IGH. It came with a big fat, sprung, comfort seat and suspended seat post. I swapped the seat for a Specialized road seat immediately. The suspended seat post started to rotate left and right immediately and the "stiction" was very noticeable so I swapped it for a Thudbuster. I was having a bunch of "butt" problems. I eventually HTFU and got rid of the Thudbuster. I think the very hard springs of the B67 will be fine. It may not be a 67S, it may be a 67 only. I will be prepared to measure it and won't take a 67S

Why?

It's not a good deal if the DPO messed it up.

Agree.
Its hard to believe anyone could be so inept as to take apart a Brooks B67 while trying to remove it. The seller messed it up doing something boneheaded and I wouldn't trust him/her for anything.

I'd buy it if it was real cheap.

How much money are we talking about? That's the most you can lose on this deal so the downside is has a fixed limit.

Realize that, if it was easy to fix, the owner would have fixed it but the owner is not very mechanically able. If he can't sell it to you, who else is likely to buy it. What is he going to do with it? It has zero value to the present owner. On the other hand, some human being installed that bolt and nut at the factory. Anything that one person can do, somebody else can figure out how to do. Since you can buy it at a favorable price, I'm thinking the upside is huge.

If the parts are all there and the price is right...

I use B67 and B67s on several of my upright IGH bikes. I also have the B66 which is the double rail model on most of my Raleigh 3 speeds. To me there is no comfort difference between the 67 or the 67S. YMMV

Aaron :)

Thanks for all your thoughts. I'm going to take a pass. There were too many compromises involved. I would rather pay more and get exactly what I want.
