Punctured tire

Hey guys! I blew a tire yesterday. Ran over some kind of lame debris, punctured my tire and tube. Anyway, I know I can just patch the tube, thats no sweat. But I'm trying to look up how to fix the hole in the actual tire and there's nothing that talks about that. I really dont want to buy a new tire over a 3mm puncture. Is there a method of "plugging" the hole, like on a car tire? Or is this something to not even worry about?

If it doesn't look too bad I usually just clean the inside surface of the tire where the puncture occurred and cover it with some duct tape.

As long as the hole in the tire isn't too large, I use a glue-type tube patch to repair a tire.
