Custom Duty to be Paid from Purchase Abroad (United Kingdom)?

Has anyone purchased cycling components from abroad - a wheelset in my case - and had to pay international custom duty when taking actual delivery? If there indded are duties to be paid any idea how much it might be and/or if it is based on price of product being imported?

I am assuming it is like buying online from another state in the US so no sales tax (except for those certain states where taxes are applicable) for the purchase. But I have never purchased from aborad so wondering if the community out there as any experience/guidance they can share. Depending on the applicable custom duty I might have to pay the savings from purchasing abroad might not be as great as if buying in the US. Thanks in advance.

I have bought a fair amount of stuff from overseas. Mostly tires from Wiggle and bike24. Hmm, a bunch of Carradice luggage, and a Brooks saddle. None of that incurred any import duties.

Ah, but then I bought a bicycle from a U.K. source. On that, I did have to pay a duty. That was a few years ago so I forget the exact details. I think it was 11% duty. The bill didn't come for maybe a month after the bike arrived. I had started to hope maybe I would escape that unpleasantness, but no!
