"Cannondale" at Costco?

http://www.costco.com/Cannondale-Tra...&storeId=10301

I'm confused. Is Cannondale permitting internet sales or is Costco just special. It looks "legit" in the sense that it's not just a branding deal. It's listed on cdale's website, has Shimano components, Schwalbe tires, C4 stem/post.

And no, I don't want it, just browsing Costco and saw it. Is this a grey market thing, like the buy them in bulk from a dealer and resell them?

I'm very sorry if this is (1) old news, or (2) not interesting.

Membership fee based company , it is a bit different than General Online sales , you have an Annual
membership payment to keep Up..

REI Members can get things shipped to them too... but their Membership is a One time Fee..

Costco has been accused of gray-marketing Cannondale bikes before. Cannondale may have been shipping the bikes overseas, but the deal went south for some reason and Costco buys them up. Note that the fine print says:
This item is covered by Costco's guarantee to refund your purchase price if you are not completely satisfied. Costco's guarantee applies, even though this item may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, because Costco is not an "authorized" dealer of the merchandise.

REI won't ship cannondale, though, I've tried! Closest one to me is near Los Angeles, which I considered because I don't care for my local dealer.

I would wager grey market.

I have a 'dale MTB from around 198? or so that was sold in a Base Exchange in Germany, it isn't in any catalog that I could find, but a buddy of mine had one very similar that he had purchased in Germany a couple of years earlier.

How does this "gray market" work exactly? I work in the industry, although not at costco, however, I know buyers for many other retailers...in every instance I've ever heard, the vendor brings the buyer the goods, they work together on price, how many pieces they get, markdown money, etc - costco is one of the leading retailers in the country, it seems a little odd to me that they would be doing shady backroom deals. But hey, I might be completely wrong. I do know in the industry I work in, the buyers get really pissed when they see stuff they're buying show up in costco - usually many of them make the vendor sign some sort of contract saying they won't take the item there for at least a year, etc. Of course, Costco gets around this by changing the item slightly and slapping the kirkland name on it.

In other news, kirkland vodka tastes just like grey goose.

'Gray market' aside, I'd pass. I can get comparable for a lower price at the LBS- with all that buying from the LBS involves.

No Costco in my neck of the woods, but I thought they were supposed to offer some bang for you buck deals...

They offer great deals on some things...other things aren't really a deal but you save time by buying in bulk. They also have an awesome return policy.

LBS gets the 'Northrock' usually on offer at Costco, to straighten out assembly adjustments, occasionally.
