Cycling sickness

I cycle to work everyday which is 2.8 miles with short mild sloped hills, which i know is no distance what so ever, however i genuinely can not help but push myself as hard as physically possible when doing so, i don't try to go fast but always do, today getting back from work it i felt very sick and it took me 1 hour and 40 mins before i was feeling like i could move. i do not warm up or down for these journeys. also cycling seems to be the only thing im competitive at. i overtook 3 other cyclists this morning at speed and felt guilty later cause i know how much it bugged me when others overtook me.
I love cycling and do regally, I naturally don't seem to push myself like this for long distance, as i manage to keep a steady fast pace and feel great at the other end.

What im asking is, will this sickness feeling eventually go? (i have been cycling to this job every day for 3 months) or is there a way to avoid it?

That seems to be a very long time to recover. Seeing a doctor may be your best bet.

Probably some combination of not eating enough or not sleeping enough.

Are you diabetic? Have you seen a doctor?

cocotherabbit 07-09-13 02:46 PM

Im not diabetic, but i do think ThermionicScott may be right as i may eat quite healthy, i do not eat enough food.

I would see a doctor.

I would also take it easy...if I knew someone sprinting past me was only going 3 miles while I was putting in 30-60, I'd chuckle.

I know cycling like i do is silly, what im saying is i just cant help but push myself this hard, i know i am capable of cycling 30 miles regularly without too much effort, but this being such a short distance i push too hard, and as it is the majority of my cycling i feel its best to make use of it, try and build a little stamina and endurance that a casual cycle wouldn't do.
im not trying to look clever by cycling fast, please don't think that or find humility in what im asking help for, im trying to make cycling a big part of my life, i wish to one day be in the position to do tours and charity events.
thinking about it possibly my best course of action would be to change the rout i cycle, so maybe i have say 6 miles, see how i go, then maybe 10 and so on.

also some of the biggest inspirations to be a better person in my life came from cyclists, one called Bart who came within 60th place in the tour de France and steve who was a doctor and traveled around the world 2 times on bike and gave medical attention to those in need along the way

Warming up is nice and everything but it is really related more towards performance. I can jump on my road bike and time trial my local loop without a warmup to no ill effects. It's just not terribly efficient. I doubt it would cause most of us to become ill for 1.75 hours.
I am unsure what anyone on a forum can do for you but you could always define what you mean by sick. Stomach issues?

Another vote for seeing a doctor.

If you eat too soon before riding that could also do it. I used to forget that and did silly stuff like going to the gym on a full stomach. The first time I literally had to sprint to the gents and see my last heavy meal coming back was the time I finally learned.

I'm in the same boat. Whenever I hop on a bike, I ride balls-out and frequently arrive at the next stop light panting. It's hard not to. :thumb:

its a sick as in want to throw up and need to lie down, possibly in cold water haha

cocotherabbit 08-25-13 04:13 PM

well i have been cycling much father distances , say 20 - 30 miles regularly (only cycle so little cause the amount of work i have) and push myself just as hard as before, and i have no sickness or anything, then have a mini core workout, .... so i am guessing the sick feeling i used to get was due to my body getting all pumped only to stop right when adrenaline kicks in, and my body has warmed up to it.
