Cycling Socks
 

I've just been helping a company testing out some Cycling socks, they gave me 3 different companies socks to test out and i had to give feedback and marks out of 10 for comfort, cost, material and what they felt like whilst cycling/post ride. They gave me some Endura Coolmax Race, Polaris Coolmax Cycling and their personal made socks. I didn't know which sock was which, cycled 30 miles in each over 3 weekends and there was only one winner for me- Sockmine Cycle Air with Coolmax. They're still in development stages at the minute, but apparently they're going to have a website up and running within the next couple of weeks.

My favourite cycling socks are lightweight cashmere and/or angora socks which I can often pick up in the ladies department of Walmart, Sears, Zellers, etc.

When I've shopped for them in late-winter/early-spring, I've been able to pick them up for $1-$2/pair.

They're comfy on rides of 100+ km ... and they are comfy while walking too. :)

ask the product development people to make a knit in band that reflects car headlights.

SmartWool. best socks EVER for anything, biking or not.

I agree, but they are expensive and wear out quickly.

Costco sells wigwam wool hiking boots in the winter. I like them but my daughter is embarrassed to ride with me.

Hmm, strange, I have had a few pair for years and use them for everything from cycling, yard work and even daily wear. I wear the big grey fuzzy ones, perhaps the thinner white ones wear faster.

I wear Sugoi 1/4 sock. I need nylon and these are great!

Same here. Some mine are almost 10 years old and still working strong but a bit thinner.

Perhaps it was due to wearing them around the house without shoes -- hard on the heels.

I wear knee high argyle socks when I go cycling. I like to tuck them under my lycra.

Under? Why any fashion sensitive rider would roll them OVER your lycra. :)

I like the feel of the cotton.

I like the big white tube socks with the red or blue double stripe, just below the knee works for me.

They used to be cool, but every store in Northern VA sells the same drab brownish, greenish color. They used to have several distinct colors; now its blah.

My first thought too. Now, fwiw - and I'm not a pro tour rider but ride about 100-150 miles a week- there are exactly 1,366 excellent bicycling socks, 495 marketed as "cycling socks" and 871 marketed for other purposes such as running. And I'm just talking about the ones with synthetic fibers.

Translation: there's nothing magical about cycling socks. Get any synthetic athletic sock with the height, weight and looks you like.

I agree that there is nothing magical about cycling socks. But my feet seem different and require a lot of attention from me to prevent blisters that can lead to very serious infections. After many trips to the foot doctor and trying various insoles and anti-friction devices I discovered the WrightSock double layer sock. This tossed me back to my early days of backpacking where I wore light silk socks under the standard rag wool hiking socks. The WrightSock is fundamentally the same concept only in a much lighter incarnation.

I have worn the WrightSock for about 3,000 miles on rides up to 90 miles without any issues. I used the same pair for almost 40 consecutive days and yes I washed them out every night. So I believe they are very durable. I am not saying these socks are everyone's panacea but if you tend to have hot feet and get blistering they may be worth trying.

I find the same thing. I have several pairs of cycling socks that I've had for about 8 years now. They do get rotated a lot, but they look brand new. Maybe he's got rough feet or something.

Cycling socks are just low rise , as I suggested if a new product, IMO, add the safety feature .

But they are MADE FOR CYCLING, tack any sport or specialty onto a garment or product and you can command 2X the price :)

Swiftwick - if you haven't tried them you should definitely check them out.

Will they have a pair with the Rubber Ducky design on them? They are my favorite. Or the pair with the smiley face on the front and the face with the tongue out on the back (Na Na Na Na design) cause they are fun when you pass other riders.:D

Plain ole solid color socks are just flat out boring. :D
