Chain cases
Alright. I'm saving up to get a Windsor 8 speed IGH and I have a few upgrades in mind. One that I'd really like is a fully closed up chain case, like this one:
http://sheldonbrown.com/images/superbe54.gif However, I'm not sure where to purchase them, and how to tell it'll work right. From what I've read, the number of teeth per cog is a consideration. Is length between the two parts it encloses also something that needs to be measured? Also, are there any metal ones floating around, or is it all plastic these days (or is plastic -the- way to go)? Thanks, M. |
You have to buy the bike already equipped with that particular chain case.
a Hebie Chain Glider is a German made plastic Chain case, assembled around a few combinations of Chainring size, and brand of rear hub.. 4 parts , mix and match.. http://www.google.com/search?q=Hebie...hrome&ie=UTF-8 |

Thanks, M. FWIW the one in the link you provided is steel and was OEM on that bike. I have one of those that I am installing on my Raleigh Tourist. :D Aaron :) |
Thanks! I'm used to crazy shipping (tea imports from China) so I'll just deal. I'll give the site a look over and see what I can conclude. Cheers!

I have the Winsor 3 speed. Forget the chain case. I ride all the time in full sweat pants and you don't get stained. It's the only bike in my stable that does this so before you go out and spend money, give the half enclosed case that comes with the bike a shot.
I actually ride in full sweats on my 21 speed, which has just a little plastic disk keeping my pants out of the chain. M. |
