Carrying extra shoes, when using cleats???
The old man is learning. On my freshly built 2001 Raleigh R700, the builder put Look clipless pedals on it, and included a set of matching cleats. To my surprise the Look Delta cleats clicked in and released like hot butter. Loved them..
After riding the R700 for about 8 or 9 days in a row, and commuting with it, I had to do a lot of walking with my cleats. Shortly thereafter, the smooth releasing cleats were not smooth releasing anymore.. Being a couple year newbie, and only rode the bike that I had with clipless very seldom, I wasn't familiar with wear on the cleats, and the affect that wear had on the performance of the cleats. Shortly thereafter, I purchased some extra set of cleats, and also some cleat covers. However, I am thinking that since I carry a backpack, I could carry some light low cut canvas tennis to use when I know I have to walk more then 50feet in my commute. Wouldn't take but a minute or two to change. Going to try that the next time out..
Has anybody tried that idea??

I wear Lake mtn bike shoes which look like hiking shoes, and have recessed cleats, so that I can ride clipped in and walk whenever I want.

I have a few pairs of these: https://www.footbrake.net/
I wouldnt run a marathon in them, but they are very compact, cheap and somewhat comfortable.

Might try a set of cleat covers. I have smal rubber covers for my SPD cleats, and they keep me from marking floors and protect the clets from grinding on concrete.

I'm using Looks for road riding, but also have SPD pedals and touring road shoes that I switch to for rides or trips where I expect I'll be walking more than just whats needed for to getting on and off the bike and making short pitstops. IMO, the SPD setup is completely suitable for road riding. I do have cleat covers for the Looks which helps preserve the cleats when walking on abrasive surfaces and makes it a bit less slippery hobbling around on slick floors.

I'd toss a pair of those cheap, foldable shoes in my pack were it me. I'd not walk in my cleated shoes...rather walk in my stocking feet...oh my poor socks.

The company Look ,makes both the external big Delta cleat , and the recessed Spud cleat pedal..
so do many other companies ..
Yes, off the bike , getting into your Podium Ceremony shoes is even done by the Pro Racers.

When I know I'll be stopping during a ride I carry my Nike Flex Runners with me in my backpack. They are LIGHT and the sole is like walking on a cloud. I just bought and started wearing my second pair. They cost about $80, and are extremely durable.
