But to be honest, between the two of us over all the years we've been cycling (for me, it's been 23 years), we've dropped a tremendous amount of money on bicycles, bicycle equipment, bicycle activities, and things related to bicycles. :D It's what we enjoy doing, so we spend less in areas that don't matter as much to us.

Even so, I know people who spend more on bike and gear for Saturday rides than you spend on equipment that takes you across continents.

If only i bought everything at Performance and it was logged on my account.......

I remember a while back seeing over $10,000 at Newegg.com going back to 2005 when I learned how to build a computer.......

A bunch and I am sure I don't want to really know. I could pull receipts... Nah. I have not bought any complete bikes this year either, which for me is a good thing. :P I would be willing to wager my BIL paid more for a set of tires for his Porsche than I have spent on bicycles in the past 3 years :D and his tires only last a couple of years. ;)

Aaron :)

Apparently I have gotten off easy. I bought a new Rans Stratus in 2008. I added a rear rack, and put a trunk pac on that I already owned. The first winter I upgraded to a Sram 7 RD for about $75. I also upgraded the seatback webbing to the new velcro strapping that hold the webbing much tighter. Since then I think I have bought 4 tires and one chain. The bike has about 12,000 miles on it. Other than that just the usual wintertime cleaing and regular maintence.

Granted I take super good care of this bike, and never have ridden in the wet. But as you can see I havent begin to spend anywhere near what some people have spent on their bikes. This has been one of the best bang for the buck purchases I have ever made.

How much money...

Just this week I've bought 3 saddles, pedals, nuts and bolts, grip tape, flashlight mounts, and possibly new tubes. I also have a folding bike needing attention and haven't spent a dime on it.

The current build appears to be settling at about 400... but bare in mind: 1 this builds frameset was a freebie and retails for near 400 itself, 2: The fork is being purchased used at less then half of what it originally retailed for as well..

This easily could have been 1000+ without labor, thank god I'm my bike mechanic.

Oh and this builds only been in the works for about 2-3 days now... with no plans of building another bike before that.

It never stops!

This year? I'd estimate about 1200$. I'm kind of amassing tools and learning a lot about repair though. The 6$ spoke wrench alone has probably saved me 80 bucks. Also re purposing an old trek 3700 as a townie.

The tools part is so annoying! Even after buying a toolset from Nashbar it still doesn't have a lot of things I'd need!

I just bought a $100 cross fork for a $25 bike. I am going to continue to pour money into it too, until it's done, so there! :p

I did that with my Marin Nail trail frame, the fork was more than the bike so were the components.

I just spent $80 on special cannondale tools to remove my crankset/chainrings. I think I'll plan on removing them weekly just so the part is somewhat worth the money.

I was doing good until recently when I had to fork out for 3 tires.

How much? Only one new bike this year, specialized enduro 29er. What is the price for peace of mind and low blood pressure. Gym membership=0. 2,000 bike commuter miles not driving? Bikes are cheap compared to cars. Depends how you value time and $. All those commuter hours not spent in the cage?

marrkedee 09-28-13 05:07 AM

I have spent about 1000$ to buy my 2 bikes.I love to buy new things in every three months.

Looking in my garage this weekend as I was setting up my newest bike to go for a first extended ride it dawned on my this....I've purchased 5 bikes in the past 2 years. It is getting crowded in my garage and in my house it is a 3-car sized with only 2 vehicles (and a storage shed out back for stuff that is put away for the season like the snow blower currently).
